The wait for Grand Theft Auto VI continues. I sure hope that Rockstar Games don’t pull what I’m going to call an Elden Ring. For the uninitiated, FromSoftware recently had the perfect opportunity to announce Elden Ring’s long-awaited DLC at the one-year anniversary celebration. Did they? No. Did they announce it at an ungodly hour on a random Tuesday? Yes.

In case you missed it, Shadow of the Erdtree is on the way but let’s get back to GTA VI. Last year, Rockstar was subject to a major cyber attack during which over an hour’s worth of footage was leaked online, alongside screenshots and source code. It appeared to confirm that the game will be set in Vice City and will feature dual Bonnie and Clyde style protagonists. One insider also claims to have found evidence of GTA Online 2’s existence. Today though, we’re here to talk about something very important: water physics.

Take a look at this incredible mod that lets you play as The Boys’ Homelander in GTA V.

I’m not even being sarcastic. Decent water physics can be very satisfying. Just take a look at Halo 3 and Metroid Prime Remastered. Double chef’s kiss. Halo 3 deserves an incredible amount of praise because, let’s be honest, those water physics were so ahead of their time. We could have a new contender in the race for best video game water though because a fresh GTA VI leak confirms that the devs are hard at work creating perfection.

As reported by Dexerto, insider Aleix Venturas claims that Rockstar San Diego has around 20 engineers working to exclusively make GTA VI’s water physics as realistic as possible. The leaker referred to GTA VI as being “ahead of its time,” adding that Rockstar have invested in new technologies which are being integrated into GTA VI’s development.

Currently, most games use a ‘wireframe’ that gives the appearance of rippling water but it’s essentially a fixed layer. GTA VI will reportedly introduce a new system that renders simulated water in realtime. The user went on to add that it seems to hint that water will play a big role in the new instalment, and we could even see surfing introduced. Regardless, I cannot wait to see this game in action.
