Grand Theft Auto VI is sitting in a weird state of limbo at the time of writing. At first, gamers couldn’t wait for the game’s November 19 launch day and were convinced it would be the greatest game ever released.
Many are now tempering their expectations thanks to the disappointing pre-order reveals. For $100, you can purchase the GTA VI Ultimate Edition, which unlocks more than just cosmetics. It also unlocks missions, utilities, and more in-game content that really shouldn’t be locked behind a paywall.

Pre-order drama aside, GTA VI is destined to be a vast improvement over its predecessor. Based on what we’ve seen in the trailers so far, mechanics introduced with Red Dead Redemption 2, and some of the rumours/leaks we’ve heard over the years, here are 9 possible GTA VI features that’ll secure its Game of the Year status.
GTA VI’s protagonists are Jason and Lucia, a criminally cute couple who are reminiscent of Bonnie and Clyde.

We’re sure the events of the game’s story are going to put a strain on this pair’s relationship, but rumour on the street is players will have to manage these love-birds similar to how Arthur Morgan has to manage his reputation in Red Dead Redemption 2. Think twice before you visit any strip clubs.
During GTA V’s story mode, players were introduced to Franklin’s beloved dog Chop, who makes several appearances throughout the game and even returns in a GTA: Online expansion.
When you meet him again in GTA: Online, you finally pet him, a feature that all good video games should have. With Floridian-inspired wildlife present in GTA VI, we’re expecting more interactions with animals in the next game. Our burning question is, can you pet the gators?

GTA V’s open-world felt more alive than ever thanks to its in-game TV and film networks, and we’d like to see GTA VI go even further.

It’s said that a full-on social media network will be introduced, which would make sense as the game’s first trailer featured a lot of characters recording and sharing videos of the wacky events transpiring in Leonida. We’re not sure what impact it could have on gameplay, but it’d definitely make the open world more interesting.
One of the most interesting additions to GTA VI so far is the weapon lockers, which you’ll be able to access from your place of residence or certain cars.
It implies you’ll only be able to take so much gear with you when you’re exploring Leonida, and should hopefully make planning missions and heists more interesting. Having access to these lockers on the go is also handy, and preferable to heading all the way back to your current home base just for a different gun.
An especially disappointing part of GTA V was the lack of explorable buildings (more on that later). Fast-food restaurants are scattered throughout Los Santos, but you can’t head inside for a meal, and while you could gorge yourself on fizzy drinks and snacks from convenience stores, they were simply there to recover health, nothing more.
If you pay close attention to Jason in the trailers, you’ll see his physique differs between shots, suggesting the weight and fitness mechanic from GTA: San Andreas is making a comeback. We’re excited to see it return, and it should help appease fans hoping GTA VI is akin to a life-simulator.
Previous GTA VI leaks shed some light on what kind of activity you can get up to when you’re not following the story mode.
Sports like tennis are expected to return, as is hunting and fishing from Red Dead Redemption 2, but given the sheer size of GTA VI’s map, we’re expecting there to be plenty more to engage with during downtime.

We briefly touched on building interiors earlier, but something that stood out from leaks in the past was the return of the shopping mall.
GTA: Vice City had one, and since GTA VI is heading back to Vice City, it’s only right to assume they’ll be coming back too. Hopefully, they offer more than just gun stores and clothing shops.
While GTA VI will be set in the modern day, the pre-order bonuses that Rockstar Games revealed suggest it’ll still pay homage to the last time we found ourselves in Leonida.
So far, we’ve seen outfits and cars that wouldn’t be out of place in GTA: Vice City, but we’re hoping Rockstar doesn’t skimp on the Easter eggs and references, too. If Tommy Vercetti gets namedropped, we might just shed a tear.
This is a feature that simply didn’t get old when we played the Red Dead Redemption games, and we’re hoping to see it adopted in GTA VI.
In an ideal world, Jason and Lucia would have their own unique abilities like Michael, Franklin, and Trevor from GTA V, but if Jason’s ends up being a modernised version of Dead Eye, we wouldn’t complain.
