GTA 6 May Boast a New Feature GTA 5 Didn't Have

One small step and whatnot

It seems that GTA VI may get a new feature that GTA V did not have, and we love to see it.

If you’re an avid gamer, there’s no escaping the knowledge that the next entry in Rockstar Games' ever-popular Grand Theft Auto series is on the way next year.

After all, GTA V is one of the most profitable video games of all time, and there’s no way that Rockstar Games' parent company, Take-Two Interactive, would not find new ways to milk its evergreen cash cow. Especially when it comes to the next iteration of GTA Online.

Speaking of GTA Online, the latest major content update went live recently with ‘A Safehouse on the Hills’. This not only brought new missions, luxury mansions to acquire and must-get vehicles, but it also saw the return of Michael De Santa, one of the three main protagonists/antagonists from GTA V. The other two being Trevor Phillips and Franklin Clinton.

It’s widely believed that GTA Online can be somewhat of a testing ground for Rockstar Games to see if new features may or may not be implemented in future games, such as the aforementioned GTA VI.

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them,” reads the synopsis of GTA VI.

“But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive.”

You Can Pet the Dog in GTA Online!

As brought to our attention by comicbook.com, one such feature expands upon the pets (or pet) that we had in GTA 5.

Namely, Franklin’s rottweiler ‘Chop’, who you could also look after away from the game via the iFruit app.

In the ‘A Safehouse on the Hills’ update, you can now name your pets and pet them.

I know that may seem like a very small feature, but I do not doubt that it will be something that many fans will appreciate.

What’s more, if you’re able to name and pet your pets in the current iteration of GTA Online, something that wasn't possible in GTA V, hopefully, this will be a minimum expectation for when the next game arrives in 2026. Only time will tell.

At the time of writing, Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to be released on 17 November 2026 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

That’s assuming it suffers no further delay. The PC release is yet to be announced.
