Touted as the game of the generation, the Grand Theft Auto VI era is well and truly upon us.
With November 19 penned in every gamer's diary, GTA VI comes with such huge expectations off the back of being the biggest-budget game of all time, taking a decade to create, refine, polish, and expand.
The hype comes off Rockstar's stellar previous entries, with the fifth instalment reigning as the second-best-selling game of all time, only topped by Minecraft (third, if you consider Tetris, but that's another debate).
GTA V is a chasm away from the next-best-seller, having sold 230 million copies since 2013. Another Rockstar entry, Red Dead Redemption 2, sits beneath it, selling 87 million copies.

Yet the sales for GTA VI are set to dwarf these, and could even knock Minecraft off the top spot with 400 million copies sold.
Without even releasing a gameplay trailer - expected to be seen in the upcoming Netflix showcase - Rockstar Games has opened the floodgates to pre-orders, and the company has already begun recouping most of what it spent on production.
But how much is Rockstar Games making from GTA VI pre-orders? Well, a lot.
GTA 6 pre-order sales pass absurd milestone before gameplay reveal
According to Sensor Tower's sales tracker, as of August 18, Rockstar had sold 4.38 million copies of GTA VI through pre-orders.
Confirmed to be 'unprecedented' by Rockstar, it's also been reported that more people are purchasing the $100 Ultimate Edition, rather than the $80 base game. Pre-order sales are now reported to be more than $400 million.
While there's no real way of measuring, many analysts predict that pre-order sales could reach the 25 million mark, which would create $2 billion in revenue before the game launches.

How much is Rockstar set to make from GTA 6 sales?
Come the opening weekend, predictions have GTA VI shattering all entertainment records, even topping Avatar's box office sales.
Reports suggest that the opening weekend of GTA VI sales alone could surpass 15 million, which would put another
It's worth noting that the $60 GTA V made $800 million in just 24 hours and went on to rake in $1.15 billion in its first five days - even if sales for GTA VI are the same, that's roughly $1.58 billion with the $80 price tag, reaching higher if the Ultimate Edition continues to reign supreme.
Let's hypothesise that GTA VI sells the same as the fifth instalment over the course of its lifetime; based on the $80 price tag, it would make Rockstar $18.4 billion. Wow.
All in all, if GTA VI goes on to have a similar, or better, legacy than its predecessor, it will go down as the most lucrative form of entertainment ever made.
How much is Take-Two making from GTA 6?
Already, Rockstar's parent company, Take-Two Interactive, has been reaping the rewards in the stock market. Since GTA VI was announced in December 2023, the Take-Two stock has risen by over 50 percent, jumping from $157 per share to $240 at the time of writing (peaking at $261 in October 2025).
The publishers have only suffered minor blips on the market due to the scheduled delays and the first wave of actual leaks that occurred this week; thanks to the gameplay leaks on X, the Take-Two stock dropped by ten percent, but has been on a steady climb as investors jump back on the bandwagon for the Netflix reveal.
It was reported that the leaks cost the company around $2.8 billion.
Still, that's a drop in the ocean for Take-Two.
Since the GTA VI announcement in December 2023, the Take-Two Interactive valuation has risen from $27 billion to almost $45 billion, a massive 64% increase.
Predictions from Bank of America claim that the Take-Two stock could increase to a minimum of $320 a share when GTA VI launches in November, which would put the company up to $59.4 billion, double what they were worth before the game was announced.
