Grand Theft Auto VI getting delayed twice was the best thing that could have ever happened for the game.
Sure it stung when Rockstar Games delayed it for the first time, and even more when it delayed it for the second time, but you simply can’t rush perfection.
I think many gamers forget that Red Dead Redemption 2 was initially planned to launch in 2017 before being delayed to 2018, and it turned out to be one of the greatest games ever made.
GTA 6 will benefit greatly from the same treatment, a sentiment that’s been echoed by other developers too like one of the design leads on The Elder Scrolls VI.

Studio design director at Bethesda, Emil Pagliarulo, recently spoke to Game Informer about The Elder Scrolls VI but also shared some words on the current state of video games in general, including Rockstar’s next title.
Pagliarulo said the GTA VI delay was the “smartest thing” Rockstar could have done, adding: "Do [gamers] want a game that comes out before it should and doesn't meet their expectations?
"Or do they want the turkey that is in the oven for long enough to be delicious when it finally comes out of the oven, you know?"

Cyberpunk 2077 is a popular example of a great game being held back by an early release, as despite CD Projekt Red delaying it multiple times it was still rushed out of the gate to its own detriment.
While it’s a much better game nowadays CD Projekt Red had to sacrifice a lot of post-launch plans to get the game stable, which probably wouldn’t have been the case if it pushed its release date back to when it was actually ready.
And then there's Rockstar's very own Red Dead Redemption 2. Delayed twice over much like GTA 6, for millions it is the greatest game of all time. Those delays mean nothing when you produce an elite product that will stand the test of time.
In regards to GTA VI Rockstar has stated that the reason it’s delayed the game is to ensure there’s the right amount of polish when it eventually releases, and while it’s annoying that we have to wait so long it’ll ultimately be a better game because of it.
Imagine getting GTA VI on launch day, after so many years of waiting, you’ve booked the day off work just to play it and when you finally load it up it’s a buggy, incomplete mess. It’d be a disaster wouldn’t it?
Grand Theft Auto fans should count themselves lucky anyway, at least their new game has a release date unlike The Elder Scrolls VI…
