Bethesda has issued an official update on The Elder Scrolls VI, and it might be the best insight yet as to what’s in store for us.
Announced in 2018, The Elder Scrolls VI has become one of those legendary games that many fans feel is going to take a long time to come out. And in fairness, it’s been nearly eight years since that initial reveal.
But with production ramping up on the upcoming RPG, it looks like development is progressing a lot faster now that Bethesda’s core developers are finished with Starfield.
It now seems like the company might be getting ready to spill more details on The Elder Scrolls VI, as evidenced by some new conversations with Game Informer this week.
Bethesda Developers Speak About The Elder Scrolls VI
Touching on how development on The Elder Scrolls VI is going, director and executive producer Todd Howard said: “It’s progressing really well. The majority of the studio’s on VI, but I’ll say this: We always overlap.

“So, we’re very used to overlapping development. And we have long pre-productions on things so that we feel good about them. And it’s a process. We all wish it went a little bit faster – or a lot faster – but it’s a process that we want to get right.”
Meanwhile, studio director Angela Browder said that “I’m actively excited about what’s in front of us, because the opportunities, the hardware, the rendering, all of this stuff has just… the possibilities are crazy.”
Browder adds: “I hope that when the day comes that our fans play it, that they – especially those of them who’ve been lifers with our brands – can really see how far it’s all come. You can see that right now: You load up the original Oblivion, and you load up the remaster of Oblivion, and you can see how far it’s all come.”

Lastly, studio design director Emil Pagliarulo emphasises patience on the part of both the players and the developers, saying that “the time pressure that players put on us, we don’t put on ourselves. And I know that can be frustrating for players who are dying to play a game.
“Games take a long time, and games get pushed all the time; GTA just got pushed again, which was the smartest thing they could do, because a game the size of these games, they take not just a long time to make, but a long time to spit and polish and iron out the bugs.”
The Elder Scrolls VI entered full-scale production back in 2023, with development ramping up earlier this year. It’s clear that the wait is going to be tumultuous, but we reckon it’ll be every bit worth it.
