Forget GTA 6, Free GTA: Carcer City Arrives in March To Keep Us Busy

A return to the franchise's former style

Grand Theft Auto VI is due to launch on 19 November, although plenty of us don’t feel all that hopeful about that date.

You see, Rockstar Games has already delayed GTA VI twice, so there’s nothing to say it won’t happen a third time, especially as pre-orders are yet to open.

We’re also yet to see any raw gameplay too. Yes, the game’s second trailer consisted of 50% gameplay but that was presented in a very cinematic way.

What we’re really itching for is a juicy, unedited combat or exploration sequence, UI intact.

Hopefully, marketing will ramp up in the next 10 months as we approach November.

In the meantime, however, another new GTA experience is on the way, and our first taste of this one is landing well before GTA VI’s launch.

If you want to see more from GAMINGbible, make us a preferred source on Google.

Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City is a brand new fan project that’s essentially a total conversion of San Andreas, turning it into a fully fledged new experience.

Well, as reported by DSOGaming, devs have dropped a brand new look at the game’s South Island as well as revealing that a demo is set to launch very soon in March.

Go Hands-On With Grand Theft Auto: Carcer City From 9 March

Yes, 9 March is when you can expect to sample this one, although specifics are limited on how much content said demo will offer.

It perhaps goes without saying that visually, you can’t really compare GTA VI and Carcer City; this is a conversion of San Andreas at the end of the day.

It boasts that retro GTA aesthetic, but I’d argue that’s a good thing. GTA VI will offer state of the art graphics, whilst this is a nostalgic blast from the past.

In fact, devs are aiming for the finished Carcer City to boast the most detailed 3D-era GTA city there is.

Players will take on the role of a former police officer who is pulled into Carcer City’s criminal underworld.

“Almost a decade after being unfairly expelled from the Carcer City Police Department, Liam O’Mulligan is still picking up the pieces,” the synopsis reads.

“Once a detective, now relying on immoral jobs offered by former partners and other figures from back in the day.

“When one of these jobs goes fatally wrong, Liam is plunged into the underworld of this decaying city, uncovering webs of conspiracies and criminal activities that involve everyone from low-life criminals to influential government officials.”

Carcer City cites Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Cleveland as inspirations as well as various levels from Manhunt.

The latest gameplay drop from the devs reveals a whopping 13-minutes of gameplay, so you can certainly get a taste for what this mod has to offer.

There’s no date yet on when the full project is set to launch, but it’s nice to know that we’ll at least get a taster in a couple of weeks time.

Of course, GTA: Carcer City does run a very big risk as Take-Two could issue the project with a takedown notice. Let’s all cross our fingers that that doesn’t happen.
