The Tokyo Games Show is well underway and it has been an exciting time for gamers, regardless of which platform they choose to get their fix from.

The PlayStation State of Play went off without a hitch and those who watched the stream were pretty pleased with everything Sony put on show. The big news was a much deeper look at the upcoming release of Wolverine from developer Insomniac games, with Australian actor Liam McIntyre confirmed as the choice for the titular superhero.

Alan Wake 2 was also revealed as the headline game in October's PlayStation Plus freebie selection, with Goat Simulator 3 and Cocoon.

On the show floor itself, the Nintendo Switch 2 is also available for players, and the standout game on show was always going to be Resident Evil: Requiem. Fortunately, for longtime fans of the series, it seems like the early consensus from those who've jumped on so far is very good.

Over on Twitter, user Stealth 40K posted a clip of the game running on the Switch 2, with the caption, "Resident Evil Requiem Switch 2 gameplay from Tokyo Game Show. Hands on impressions have been very positive. The Switch 2 port is very good."

There will always be understandable question marks when big games makes their way over to the Switch for the first time, so this first look will undoubtedly come as a relief to many,

The comments in response to the gameplay were almost universally positive as well, with one saying, "That’s crazy that it looks and runs really well compared to what we saw in the direct. I wonder how well the other RE games releasing in February would look like?"

Another added, "WTF? I knew it would look good, but that seems to be running higher than 30fps too!"

A third pointed out how Capcom's technical preparedness laid the groundwork for this latest release, saying, "People should remember Capcom already had a version of their engine ready for Switch 2 in the version used for MH Rise on Switch 1. Porting to Switch 2 is likely not as big a task for them when it comes to RE Engine games."

Resident Evil: Requiem is set to arrive on the Switch 2 on 27 February, 2026, so you'll still have to wait a while to get your hands on it. That does also mean the developer has the time to make it run even better, so that's a nice silver lining whilst we sit tight.
