breaking news

Well, there it is. Marvel’s Wolverine has officially returned, with a brand new trailer debuting at tonight’s State of Play.
Marvel’s Wolverine was first unveiled all the way back at a PlayStation Showcase in 2021.
Ever since then, there's been total radio silence on the project, but that was somewhat to be expected.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched back in 2023, so for the two years following Marvel’s Wolverine’s reveal, that title was very much Insomniac Games’ focus.
It was then expected that Spidey might receive some DLC given that it was definitely hinted at.
I’m assuming the major ransomware attack that hit Insomniac Games in late 2023 scuppered those plans.
Alas though, the studio is back with Marvel’s Wolverine.

It’s an action-adventure game that follows everyone’s favourite adamantium claw-donning anti-hero.
The trailer offers us a much better glimpse at Marvel’s Wolverine’s bloody combat.
Honestly, I didn’t expect so much squelchy splatter but I’m here for it.
In fact, during a deep dive that accompanied the trailer, a developer even confessed they were surprised that one particularly brutal shot in the trailer even made the cut; it’s the one where Logan sends his claws straight through someone’s face.

You can view that trailer below.
It’s hard to say exactly where the story will take us at this stage, but we do know that Logan will set out on a globe-trotting adventure that’ll feature some familiar Marvel characters including the likes of Mystique and Omega Red.
As for where he’ll visit, that list includes Madripoor, Canada, and Tokyo.

According to a PlayStation blog post, the game will see Logan “on the hunt to uncover the secrets of a dark past that keeps eluding him”.
Vague, but I’m intrigued. I’m sure the trailer is hiding clues; forgive me for missing them as I write you this breaking news.
One thing I can confirm is when we’ll get our hands on the game as Marvel’s Wolverine will launch in fall 2026.
That means that there’s just one year to wait, with Insomniac Games already confirming that we’ll next hear about the title in the spring.

The game’s star was also unveiled. Australian actor Liam McIntyre will be stepping into the role who you may know from Gears of War 4 and Gears 5 where he played JD Fenix.
Beyond this, devs have teased “fluid, and ferocious combat; exhilarating, action-packed set pieces; robust accessibility features; and a gripping story that taps into the core tenets of one of the most compelling comic book characters of all-time”.
They add that this is “much darker and more brutal than you might expect from Insomniac”.
Oh I’m so very much on board.
