MCU fans heartbroken as hit series removed from Disney Plus

Disney might be axing content again

Marvel Cinematic Universe fans have voiced their discontent after a popular Disney Plus series has seemingly vanished from streaming.

TV projects in the MCU have been a hit with fans over the last few years. Shows like Loki, Agatha All Along, and Daredevil have taken the universe in new and exciting directions.

Shows like these demonstrate the power TV has over movies, where a character’s story simply can’t be contained within a single two-hour narrative.

This is why more minor characters in the MCU have been getting more screen time in their TV projects. It gives the writers a chance to flesh out characters like Scarlet Witch, Hawkeye, and Falcon between movies, adding additional depth to them.

Now, Marvel fans are voicing concerns after seeing a hit show disappear from the streaming service.

Take a look at upcoming MCU projects to look forward to!

I Am Groot was a series of shorts developed for Disney Plus based on the Guardians of the Galaxy character famous for uttering the titular line through his various movie appearances.

Released in two seasons between 2022-23, the shorts featured Baby Groot as he grows up between the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Each episode ran for about five minutes, with Groot’s shenanigans often being the centrepiece of each short’s dilemma.

Over on the Marvel Studios subreddit, one fan has noticed that the first season of I Am Groot is no longer available to stream.

“Yeah if anyone has not noticed S1 is no longer available in Disney+,” writes Reddit user eagc7 after noticing the season was missing. “I don’t know if this is a glitch or if they are purging programming once more.”

Other users have expressed sadness, and hope that it’s just a glitch with Disney’s systems. One commenter wrote, “Hopefully a glitch, my little guy loves Baby Groot”.

Another user echoed this sentiment, saying “I had this same problem last night. My son loves Groot, he just discovered it and prefers the first season. He was all p*ssed last night cause he didn’t understand. I wonder what reason.”

At the time of writing this article, I Am Groot Season 1 is currently available for me in the UK. Disney has not commented on the possible removal of the show from its streaming service, so it’s likely this is just a glitch.

Either way, it’s a painful reminder that streaming services can remove content on a whim. Unlike physical media such as DVDs and Blu Rays, movies and shows released online may one day be inaccessible to those who love them.
