Critics have cast a harsh, smelly shadow over Marvel's Wolverine, as divisive features were ripped to shreds in the same fashion Logan tears through countless dismembered NPCs.
At the core of Marvel's Wolverine are fighting mechanics that are a thrill for any player. The story is generally well-guided, and the inclusion of new icons like Jean Grey (popularised by Sadie Sink in Spider-Man: Brand New Day) has pushed Insomniac Games' latest project into the faces of superhero fans around the world.
Yet one feature has caused rife debate in the community, as the PlayStation exclusive title is far too 'easy' thanks to handholding mechanics labelled 'fart gas'.
Logan's sense of smell is one of his key mutant buffs, but when it comes to Insonmiac's portrayal of his nostril compass, the developers added a string of opulent gases that walked players through the game, inch by inch.

This led to industry-wide complaints, as many critics claimed that it halted layered world exploration and turned a good story into nothing more than a linear guided tour.
Now, Insomniac Games has released a new update that has completely removed these features, and the PlayStation community has turned into wild, celebratory (and presumably hairy) beasts.
Marvel's Wolverine update removes Logan's smell mechanics
Last week, Insomniac announced that it had nerfed the controversial 'fart gas' by dulling the bright blue and green guidance trails - yet players quickly realised that it didn't really matter how bright the colours were, just that they were there. Even in the dullest colours, the 'walk this way' feature broke their immersion.
As of September 26, the developers have now added a toggle to the settings that removes it entirely.
"This update includes Senses toggles for Whisky Bottle Scent Trails, Material Crate Audio Clues, and Nightmare Door Roots," the patch notes read.
The toggle can now be found in the Gameplay settings under a new 'Senses' category, where you can pick and choose if you want Logan to be able to sniff out a track or a bottle of JD.
Addressing the update, Insomniac Games director of marketing, James Stevenson, said, "As I have said we continue to listen and work with the team to address feedback and requests."

Typically, this has been applauded by the vocal majority who called for its removal,
"Yoooo Insomniac is GOATED frfr. Love the fact your actually listening to the gamers. Mad Respect," one fan said on X.
A second added, "This alone makes this game go from an 8 to a 9.5."
Others praised the fact that it is an option, allowing players to make their own choices in the game.
"That is probably the smartest solution. Do not redesign the game around whichever side is shouting louder. Just give players the damn switch," another fan said.
Yet, the option to keep it remains, and there are fans who acknowledge that it is worth considering to fully comprehend the toolkit of the Marvel character.
"It’s cool to have to this option but I feel like this is like 80% because of SkillUp the scent trail is barely in the game and is a part of Wolverine mutant ability, it’s like turning off the option for Spider-Man Spider-Sense," another fan argued.
The update is now live and available for all Marvel's Wolverine players.
