Sony’s PlayStation Plus subscription service has so many games on offer from AAA big hitters, hidden gems, indie darlings and much more. It gives subscribers an opportunity to play games that might otherwise fly under the radar.
One such game is Child of Light from Ubisoft, which was originally released in 2014 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox and the Wii U, before arriving on other platforms such as Nintendo Switch and the now-deceased Google Stadia.

Child of Light is a side-scrolling RPG that has a certain indie charm, supported by engaging gameplay, beautiful visuals and a mesmerising soundtrack to boot. It really is a game that should be played by more gamers and fans on Reddit agree.

“I recently finished Child of Light and it’s fantastic for any RPG fan. It has a great story, music, and combat. It has everything and only takes about 6ish hours [to finish],” said Redditor duckybebop kicking off the discussion on the thread. “I strongly recommend it for anyone who’s got an itch for an RPG but doesn’t want to dedicate a lot of time.” That being said, if you like exploring everything that a game has to offer, you could easily spend at least 10+ hours with Child of Light.

“Finally! I thought I was the only one who thinks Child of Light is a masterpiece,” replied OptimusCrime80. However, the Reddit thread was full of other recommendations from eager gamers.
“Abzu is one of the most visually striking games I’ve ever played, every five seconds I was using the capture button to make another wallpaper for my phone,” exclaimed Authoritah1. “Journey, Firewatch, Super HOT, The Order: 1886, What Remains of Edith Finch, Portal, and Dredge..... There should be something in there you would like,” suggested RexVanZant. “Death's Door was amazing and short,” recommended drewdnb.
In related news, a PlayStation Plus freebie is said to be one of the best RPGs of all time and the latest games for October 2023 have been announced.
Child of Light is available now on PC, PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo Switch.
