One Of The Best Mystery Games Ever Comes To PS5 And XSX Today

This is an unmissable gem of a game.

What Remains Of Edith Finch arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S today, offering a free update to the super shiny version of the game for those who already own the affecting narrative experience on their previous generation console.

It's a strange story, that of the unfortunate Finches. All families have secrets - stashes of chocolate digestives at the back of the cupboard, an abhorrent birthday sweater discreetly disposed of, skirting round what really happened at the house party last night. Edith Finch returns to her ancestral home on Orcas Island for the first time in seven years yet there will be no warm welcome here. She's the only surviving member of her family and she's going to get to the bottom of the curse that claims the lives of Finches like matches blown out in a cold wind.

Take a look at the trailer here:

For those of us who have played What Remains Of Edith Finch, the heart-shattering realisations of exploring this great old house and letting the memories unfurl in front of Edith haven't left our minds since the moment we stumbled upon the last page of the story. "Most of the searching isn't for answers at all, or clues, or markers on a map, but for closure and contentment with fates that can't be altered. It's a game consumed entirely by death and loss, and yet, on finishing it, will likely charge you with hope. It's innovative, imaginative, aesthetically remarkable, and just a bit special," said Mike. If you won't take our word for it, I think you'll find it was nominated for seven BAFTAs, winning the award for Best Game and snagging the Best Narrative award at The Game Awards 2017.

See, it's not just us. I might be preaching to the converted here, due to the enormous impact this game has had not only on the genre of walking simulators but on the medium as a whole, and if you do own What Remains Of Edith Finch, you'll get the upgraded new-gen version for the low, low price of nothing. Boosted to glittering 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, you'll now be able to count every single mote of dust floating in the halls of the Finches' home. Once you've done that, you can start counting the threads in the curtains. This offer will only apply to those who've got the game on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and not for the PC or Switch players, mind.
