This upcoming Steam game looks like it’s hitting all the right open-world survival crafting notes, and you can play it for yourself ahead of the release… if you’re lucky.
For those of us who were unfortunate enough to actually play Starfield at launch, did you ever get the feeling that the base-building and crafting elements from Fallout 4 could have vastly improved the overall experience?
Y’know, make it a bit more Valheim-like, and a bit less boring, straightforward shooter-like? Wait, am I just describing No Man’s Sky?
Anyway, there’s a new game coming to Steam that looks a lot like what I just described, with a few little Factorio elements thrown in for good measure, too.

StarRupture is a "first-person open world base-building" game from developer and publisher Creepy Jar, who are best known as the devs behind the underrated 2019 banger Green Hell.
The aim of the game is to explore “a mysterious planet” and its “ever-changing open world torn by recurring cataclysms”, while you set about building a base that can protect you from the elements (and the enemies that roam the map).
While the game does seem to primarily be an open-world crafting game, there does also appear to be a pretty fun-looking tower-defence element to the survival side of things.
Honestly, they should really open with that tower-defence bit in the marketing, because now I’m actually pretty interested in playing this one for myself.

Speaking of playing it, when’s it out? Sometime in 2025, and that’s the best you’ll get in terms of a solid release date (for now).
However, you can play this one a little early if you want, as a playtest for StarRupture is about to kick off at the end of the month. If you sign up now, you might be lucky enough to get selected as one of its participants (but no promises).
