Both Cyberpunk 2077 and Fallout are set within farflung futures, one in which technology has thrived and one in which it led to the mass destruction of almost all that is manmade (above ground, anyway).
Terminator: Survivors, an upcoming open-world game, places you in a narrative that somewhat combines those two ideas.
You’ll assume the role of a survivor after the event known as ‘Judgement Day’, tasked with surviving in the wild whilst being hunted by Skynet’s ruthless machines.
Oh, and you’ll encounter unfriendly human factions too; this is the apocalypse after all.

The game has been developed by Nacon Studio Milan and is set to be published by Nacon later in 2025, although an exact release date is yet to be confirmed.
“It’s been four years since the day humanity nearly perished. The truth of the event is still muddied in half-truths as you emerge from a shelter to attempt and reestablish some semblance of society in a world that seems hell-bent on eliminating you and the last vestiges of mankind,” the synopsis reads.
“You are tasked with scouring the surrounding land for materials, information, other survivors and key resources in order to establish a base of operations for your fledgling group. But you’re not alone. Skynet’s machines are hunting you. They don’t feel anything. They never stop. Ever. Until they completed their mission: eradication of all humanity.”
The task before you isn’t easy, as that synopsis makes perfectly clear.

As suggested above, you’ll need to build a home base in order to survive, which you’ll naturally expand and improve as the game progresses.
There are also plenty of combat encounters to engage in, although devs suggest that you “think before you shoot”.
On occasion, stealthily dealing with Skynet’s machines may be the wise approach.
The game features familiar characters from the iconic film series as well as plenty of new ones.

And you don’t have to attempt all of this alone; Terminator: Survivor is a co-op title so you can grab a buddy.
Unfortunately, there’s no demo or playtest available for this one, so we’re going to have to wait until that release date drops.
I should also add that it’s only expected to drop on Steam this year, with a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S release landing sometime later.
