Gorgeous pixel art aesthetics? I'm sold

RPGs come in many shapes and sizes.

The most popular of which is perhaps the type to offer a photorealistic, sprawling open-world.

Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are among some of the key examples that spring to mind.

Personally though, I have a soft spot for classic RPGs that provide the same kind of gameplay loop albeit in a pixel art world that relies far more on your imagination and suspension of disbelief.

Ghostforged offers just that, with this upcoming RPG certain to delight fans of classic Final Fantasy and The Legend of Zelda entries.

Developed by Wardwell Games, Ghostforged is an upcoming JRPG inspired by “classics of the genre”.

“Guide six heroes to confront a rising darkness before it consumes the world,” it teases.

The game is set within the dying world of Embervale where a mysterious figure called The Mage has taken over, unleashing nightmarish creatures.

Players step into the shoes of Prudence, a young fighter who lost her brother in one of the earliest battles against The Mage.

Her sword is guided by her memories of him. As you’ve likely guessed, Prudence sets out to take on The Mage herself, befriending a wide array of allies along the way.

Seraphine, Tristan, Elda, Cameron, and Brennan are among the friends you can make as players partake in all of the usual RPG fare.

You’ll compete in battles via a turn-based combat system, work your way through an engaging story, master over 80 skills, and uncover hidden areas and secrets.

All in all, the game boasts over 12 hours of content.

Ghostforged remains without a release date for now but we know it’s set to arrive on PC storefront Steam where a demo is actually already available.

There’s very little info on what the demo actually entails other than the fact that it’s recently been overhauled.

“This update includes major improvements and changes across the demo based on player feedback,” devs began.

“Many elements have been refined to improve the overall experience, including pacing, visuals, and various gameplay adjustments.

“If you've already played the demo, it's highly recommended to try this new version as many things have changed.”

This small slice should give you an idea of what to expect when it comes to the game’s combat system and gorgeous pixel art aesthetics.

Enjoy what you play? I’m sure the Ghostforged team would appreciate a wishlist.
