The Legend of Zelda has been such an iconic and consistent franchise that it's totally understandable how many games have tried to replicate its greatest features over the years.
From the series' iconic art style to its fantastical story and instantly recognisable cast of characters, it's always nice to have similar releases to play between mainline games.
Fortunately, our old friend Steam has plenty of choices that fit the bill, and one game in particular has all the right ingredients, with a little bit of Final Fantasy mixed in for good measure (hence the name).
Over on Steam, you should be able to find the store page for Philna Fantasy, a classically styled action RPG, all served up in a very nice to look at pixel art package.

So what's it all about, I hear you asking. Well, in the developer's own words, "When an adventurer from an alien planet crash-lands on the continent of Votland, an unexpected journey begins. Explore a vibrant pixel world filled with dungeons, puzzles, crafting, and secrets as you uncover the truth behind the Void slowly consuming the land."
Philna Fantasy is an Old-School Action RPG
It's an interesting enough premise for a game that actually comes packed with a ton of features, many of which you'll recognise from some of the better games from your childhood (assuming you're over 25 like me).
The game features nine handcrafted dungeons (which is always to be commended), but it's actually the depth and details in those dungeons that stands as the game's real strength, rather than the number of them.

Each is filled to the brim with puzzles and mechanisms, as well as hidden passages and treasures, all while you're taking on the myriad of foes that dwell within them.
Philna Fantasy also has a full class system, with four classes for players to choose from in the Berserker, Chrono-Mage, Assassin and Ranger, all of which behave broadly as you'd expect if you've played traditional fantasy before.

That said, each of those also has a full skill tree which you can build into as you wish, allowing players to have fun in the play style they prefer, rather than being confined to a meta, of sorts.

The game released just a few days ago, but if you'd like to try before you buy, so to speak, then there is a free demo available now from the game's store page, which features the game's first two chapter (clocking in at around 2-3 hours of gameplay).
