If you are a Resident Evil gamer in the 90s, then your prayers have been answered with the arrival of this brand new remake, of sorts.
Anyone who knows me knows that I may be a little obsessed with Capcom’s survival horror series, Resident Evil. Ever since I played the original game in 1996 on the PlayStation, it instantly became an obsession that continues to this very day.
Then, two years later, when Resident Evil 2 arrived, that obsession was kicked into a new gear, for a game that would become my all-time favourite.
Briefly wandering Raccoon City and then the RPD as either the rookie cop, Leon S. Kennedy or Claire Redfield, who’s searching for her missing brother Chris, there is something truly special about RE2.

So imagine my excitement when a remake of my favourite game of all time arrived in 2019. New and improved visuals, enhanced gameplay, new story beats, areas and more, that version of Resident Evil 2 is pretty much a perfect remake, in my opinion.
Wait, We’re Getting Another Resident Evil 2 Remake?
Yes, that’s right, we are indeed. However, it might not be the remake you expect. Back in July 2025, we reported that a Resident Evil 2 arcade lightgun game from Bandai Namco, in collaboration with Capcom, had been spotted in the wild, in Romford, England.
This Resident Evil 2 arcade game was essentially a test unit, I guess, to find out whether it would be a success and accepted by the general public. Well, it seems it was a success, because it’s rolling out in other regions across the world.
As brought to our attention by Genki_JPN on Twitter, Biohazard RE:2 Arcade will be appearing in other arcades across Europe, the US and Japan in 2026. Apparently, the big rollout will begin in Japan this year.
The game is inspired by the 2019 remake, and the lush arcade cabinet is kitted out in the game's signature, red, white and black combination.
It also features Leon. S Kennedy, Claire Redfield, Ada Wong and who I think might be William Birkin in one of his mutated forms. The post is accompanied by a few screenshots, which include the menacing T-00, otherwise known as Mr X.
Sadly, as much as we’d really want to play Biohazard RE:2 Arcade, unless you live in a lucky area, arcades are a dying breed.
They are nowhere near as prominent as they were in the 80s, 90s and even early 2000s. It's a shame.
If you do find an arcade, usually on the coast, they’re often full of gambling and claw/crane machines.
But hopefully, you’ll find some joy and stumble across Biohazard RE:2 Arcade. If not, you can at least enjoy its gameplay trailer here.
