If you’re in need of something new to play, PC storefront Steam has just gained a new “2D dark fantasy RPG” that’s totally free-to-play.

Early Morning Studio has launched Vampire’s Fall 2 which, yes, is a sequel to a game called Vampire’s Fall: Origins.

The good news is that you can play the second game without playing the first. You may miss a few narrative references but it’s built in a way that it’s accessible to newcomers - especially as it’s set hundreds of years later.

That first game will set you back £9.99, so it’s not free like its successor on Steam. I will warn you that as a free game, Vampire’s Fall 2 does feature microtransactions and pay-to-win options.

‘Very Positive’ Reviews Have Flooded In on Steam

The game was technically already available on mobile but it hasn’t simply been ported to PC.

This version of the RPG features no ads nor paywalls. All in-game purchases are totally optional, devs note.

It also has higher resolution textures and audio, with the UI and controller inputs also adapted for PC play.

“Vampire’s Fall 2 invites you back into a bleak and haunting realm, continuing the legacy of the dark fantasy RPG Vampire’s Fall: Origins,” the synopsis begins.

“Taking place two centuries later, vampires rule the world, and humans are little more than slaves and food for the aristocratic elite. A hero is needed to save humanity, or seal its fate.”

Players will explore a handcrafted open-world as they fend off enemies, learn new skills, and craft unique builds.

The game’s combat is turn-based. “Attacks, abilities, and the use of HP and FP potions all consume turns, forcing you to weigh risk and reward. Success comes from planning, managing resources, and adapting to each enemy’s strengths,” devs explain.

There are nine main weapon types and four skill trees, so you really can tailor combat to your liking.

The four skill trees are titled Anger, Deceit, Control, and Vitality, perhaps giving you a clue as to the various approaches.

Are you the type to fight aggressive and dirty, or do you prefer a more logical approach?

You’ll gain new loot throughout Vampire’s Fall 2 which will increase your stats.

There’s a PvP mode if you want to step away from standard quests and by all accounts, the game looks to be off to a roaring start on PC.

At the time of writing, 85% of reviews are ‘Very Positive’.

“Four hours in, I think this is a fun game. Relaxing turned based RPG,” said one player.

“This game is very charming. It has a good story line and is funny. It has a Diablo feel mixed with V Rising. You can either grind or go with the main story quests. Found myself looking forward to exploring and seeing what else is ahead,” added another.

They continued, “Only slightly annoying part is sometimes you randomly have a chest pop up. This is what people think pay to win is. You DO NOT need to buy shards to progress through the game. Ignore the chests. With some grinding you can easily buy gear from the vendors using in-game gold.”
