Just because a game is free, it doesn’t necessarily make it worth your while, but Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives is not one to miss.
In fact, one player has even labelled it a “crime” that the “phenomenal” game is free.
Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives is available to play via PC storefront Steam, where it’s already garnered a ridiculously high review score of 99 percent, as reported by ComicBook.
Developed by Kazehita, Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives is actually inspired by the Life Series, an unscripted series created by Minecraft players; you do not, however, need to have any familiarity with Life Series to get a kick out of this particular offering.

Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives is a narrative-driven RPG that follows protagonist Grian as he awakens on a mysterious island.
Beyond that brief tease, the game’s narrative is being kept under wraps, but that’s perhaps because there are several branching paths allowing for great replayability.

Throughout your journey in Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives, you’ll encounter 12 memorable characters, with the game featuring over 400,000 words of dialogue, 50 original music tracks, and 450 cut-in artworks.
The project is completely fan-made and not-for-profit, with over 70 gamers ultimately contributing to Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives. Development took seven months.
“Partake in fatal-but-temporary shenanigans, and reveal one of the many story routes,” the game teases.
“Every route diverges wildly — you may find yourself becoming a detective, cheating on your first alliance, or discovering secrets that were best left forgotten!”
It is noted that the game is intended for “teen audiences and up” with Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives featuring “sudden noises, flashing, bright colours [and] swearing”, although there are in-game settings to toggle these inclusions on and off.
It should only take you a couple of hours at most to make your way through your first playthrough of Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives.
Of course, given that every branch of the story is completely different, you could quite quickly increase that playtime with some reviewers having racked up close to 20 hours despite Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives only having landed a few days ago.

One reviewer has dubbed the game “the source of my joy and whimsy”
Again, the game currently boasts a review score of 99% which is quite something. You can’t get praise higher than this.
“I LOVE THIS GAME SOME MUCHHHH!! The artwork is amazing and there's so many endings you can get,” began one very satisfied player.
“Me and my friend are playing it together and we keep having to stop to just admire every little detail! It's genuinely the source of my joy and whimsy right now.”
Another added, “I love how different each route is. My favourite is probably the Watcher route so far.”
“10/10 this is an incredible project made by fans of the life series for fans of the Life Series,” began another review.
“The music is beautiful and I've found myself saving at odd times in the game to easily explore alternative options so I can find as many different art pieces as possible. The art teams all did a phenomenal job on this one. Thank you all for your hard work and dedication!”
This RPG clearly isn’t one to miss, so if you have a few hours spare this week, give Heartfall - A Tale in Three Lives a go.
