If you’re a fan of Studio Ghibli - particularly the likes of Spirited Away - then you’re most definitely going to want to give Spirit Crossing a try.
This delightful upcoming RPG is being developed by Spry Fox with a planned launch on PC later this year; a precise release date is yet to be pinned down.
What you can now do though is hop into Spirit Crossing’s free playtest via Steam.
Spirit Crossing is set within a world inhabited by both humans and spirits.

“A mysterious guide prompts you to join a thriving community dedicated to restoring broken bonds,” the synopsis begins.
“Play with your friends to help spirits, fellow humans, and sassy little bears in need.
“Uncover the secrets of the Crosslands while learning about the lives and trauma of those who make their homes here.”
Spirit Crossing is an online title that includes plenty of life sim elements, so you’ll be able to team up with your buddies to create your very own neighbourhood, known as a Waystation.
You can, of course, also visit the Waystations of other players if you want to seek out some inspiration.
There’s a friendship progression system so you’ll unlock unique rewards for socialising with other players which includes gaining access to proximity chat, special two-player emotes, teleportation, and more.

Spirit Crossing doesn’t solely offer cosy fare. You’ll want to travel to the various shrines that protect these lands.
“While adventuring through Wilderness peaks, you'll find comfort at bonfires while you wait out the storm with other players,” devs note.
“Afterward, enjoy a Rainbow Time buff together while you harvest colourful Beacon Energy drops scattered throughout the islands!”
I said Spirit Crossing could be compared to Spirited Away and that’s because there are plenty of spirits within the title who need your help.
Sometimes, they’ll require something as simple as medicine or a snack. In other instances, helping a spirit may send you on a great quest.
The more you help a spirit, the more they’ll reveal about their backstory - plus you’ll net some sweet rewards.
Devs also tease that Spirit Crossing features both solo and co-op minigames, puzzles, and tournaments, although very little has been said about what these entail.
There are also mystical mountaintop ruins to explore with new ones surfacing every few days.
Spirit Crossing sounds like a total blast and you can experience it for yourself amid the new free playtest.
The playtest is live on Steam. All you need to do is navigate over to the game’s store page and press ‘Request Access’ where it states, “Join the Spirit Crossing playtest”.
You’ll then be contacted with everything you need to get involved.
If you’ve gotten involved with one of Spirit Crossing’s former closed playtests, you’re encouraged to give this one a try too.
Developers have added an impressive new cinematic introduction, overhauled the housing system to give players their own patch of land, revamped the Village Center, added new minigames, and much more.
There’s no word on when the playtest might be coming to an end but such things typically last for a couple of weeks at least.
