There are plenty of exciting new RPGs set to launch in the coming months and years.

Gothic 1 Remake, The Adventures of Elliot: The Millennium Tales, The Elder Scrolls VI, Beast of Reincarnation, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Lords of the Fallen II, Fable, and Sea of Remnants are some of the examples that spring to mind.

One RPG that may not be on your radar is Entropy, but it most definitely should be - especially as it just launched a free demo on PC storefront Steam.

Developed by Lovely Hellplace and published by DreadXP, Entropy is due to launch in full on 18 August.

This turn-based RPG claims to be inspired by classics of the JRPG genre and therefore boasts a retro aesthetic.

“Assemble your party of mercenaries and forge your own path towards an expedition into hell to stop the demonic incursion. Choices you make along the way will determine the fate of your world,” the synopsis teases.

Entropy features all of the usual RPG fare including a huge map full to the brim with interesting NPCs, a party-based system, and various skill trees.

“In this dying age, only pockets of humanity remain,” devs teased, setting up the story.

“There was no apocalyptic event to speak of; only the cruel march of time and the inexplicable infertility of the world. Accursed creatures stalk the barren lands between settlements, which are themselves terrible places; squalid, medieval and mostly ruled by tyrants.

“Our story begins in the town of Draenog, where the theatre performance you are putting on is interrupted by fighting at the gates. Demons have arrived. Your wooden sword will have to do for now, gather the troupe and defend yourselves!”

You can control a party of up to six characters as you journey across this world, putting a stop to a fierce demon incursion.

If your party members fall, you’ll have to hire a mercenary in order to fill your ranks and continue on.

Outside of turn-based skirmishes, there are side quests to take on, treasures to unearth, and challenges to complete that’ll test your various skills.

Entropy’s brand new demo currently boasts a perfect score of 100% on Steam, correct at the time of writing.

The demo offers access to a “unique variation” of the game’s opening with “streamlined access to stronger weapons and magic normally available a bit later into the game”.

As for what players have to say, someone remarked, “This game absolutely has the SAUCE! The vibes are immpecable, the combat really fun with just enough layers to be challenging! It's not just nostalgia, it's a very forward thinking indie!”

Another added, “Very Cool! Old-school JRPG style game, with a ton of fun little freaks to interact with and some wonderful combat mechanics,” while one player wrote, “This is a very good demo, the setting is fantastic. A strange and dying world with a magic system that seems to be based on gruesome biological alteration, grand stuff. I really adore the combat system, it has a satisfying depth and tacticalness to it.”

You should be able to complete the demo in under two hours; it certainly sounds like one you shouldn’t miss.
