Alongside this, a new accolades trailer has been released to get players excited about the release. The game scored well when it was released last April, with the PC version getting a Metacritic score of 75, and the Xbox version getting 80.
We Really Liked South Of Midnight When We Played It Last Year
We gave it an 8/10, with our own Kate Harrold calling it “an unmissable experience” and that it “offers such a remarkable story and what could be the year’s best soundtrack”.
A lot of fans enjoyed the game but never finished it, feeling that the combat parts were just way too boring and repetitive.
In the options, you can skip combat. A lot of people didn't know this, so there you go.
South of Midnight is an action-adventure game set in a Gothic fantasy American Deep South setting. After a devastating hurricane destroys her hometown, Hazel Flood is pulled into an alternate reality where folklore creatures emerge, and she must harness magical abilities to untangle her family’s past.
As it was published by Xbox Game Studios, South of Midnight came to Xbox Game Pass at launch for both console and PC, where it saw decent success on the Ultimate tier.
Prior to South of Midnight’s launch, Compulsion Games was known for releasing Contrast, a puzzle-platform game released at the tail end of the Xbox 360 and PS3 generation.
It also released We Happy Few in 2016 as an Early Access title, before the game grew and hit 1.0 in 2018. It was based on works like Brazil, Nineteen Eighty-Four, Animal Farm, Fahrenheit 451, and Brave New World, in which you play as a character looking to escape a city which is on the verge of collapse due to its inhabitants being blissfully unaware of their circumstances.
