Folks, it’s time. Your lineup of PlayStation freebies for next month has been confirmed and… I wouldn’t get too excited.

If you saw the leak earlier today, this will come as no surprise, but from next month, subscribers will be able to grab GRID Legends (PS4/5), Chivalry II (PS4/5), and Descenders (PS4/5) for free. Yeah, compared to this month, that’s really not a fantastic selection.

Take a look at the trailer for the recently released Tchia, which is free to play via PlayStation Plus Extra.

If nothing else, it’s a good month for people who enjoy vehicles and riding around in/on said vehicles. GRID Legends is a 2022 racing game which lets players zoom around in fast cars (as you'd expect), while Descenders is an extreme downhill cycling game.

The PlayStation Plus Monthly Games for May are:

➕ GRID Legends
➕ Chivalry 2
➕ Descenders

As a medieval multiplayer hack and slack action title, Chivalry II certainly spices the selection up a bit. When this PS Plus lineup news broke, GAMINGbible’s very own James Daly remarked that Chivalry II is “very fun”, and he has some excellent opinions on video games, so perhaps we should consider this addition a win.

All in all though, it seems unlikely that most fans will be thrilled about these choices when this month, we had the delightful Sackboy: A Big Adventure and day-one release Meet Your Maker to get our hands on (as well as the lovely RPG Tails of Iron). Admittedly, you’re never going to please everyone, but I’m sure I speak for most of us when I say that I hope May’s Extra and Premium tier offerings are a bit stronger.

Subscribers will be able to claim these three games from 2 May until 6 June. That also means you have until just 1 May to grab the (arguably far better) lineup from April. A free game is a free game regardless though, so if you’re subscribed, don’t miss out.
