Being a PlayStation Plus subscriber pays off the most when you gain access to day-one releases and this week will do just that with the release of a stunning adventure game.

According to Chris Tapsell over on Eurogamer, PlayStation Plus subscribers “are in for an absolute treat” when Sword of the Sea is added to the service as a day one release on 19 August.

From the creators of Abzû, The Pathless and Journey comes Sword of the Sea, an atmospheric surfing adventure with fast movement inspired by classic skateboarding and snowboarding games.

Developed by Giant Squid, Sword of the Sea is everything you would come to expect from such an artistic company: beautiful visuals, engaging narrative and a heartwarming adventure for gamers of all ages.

You will be tasked with surfing across magnificent waves of sand and glistening waters on your Hoversword as you embark on a quest to restore a lost ocean.

“Build momentum to reach top speed and catch big air off the crests of giant waves. Pull off radical flips, spins, and grab tricks with ease as you shred halfpipes, ramps, and wall rides.

It’s the perfect balance of exhilarating action and fluid, meditative movement,” the official synopsis reads.

You are a Wraith, a resurrected being from the desolate Necropolis who must now set off on an adventure to discover the remnants of a lost culture, connect with nature and restore life and avoid the mysterious darkness which lurks beneath the waves.

Sword of the Sea is set to release on PC and PlayStation 5 on 19 August and for PlayStation users, it will be added to the PlayStation Plus library at no extra cost on day one.

“I love Abzû and Journey. Cant wait for this!!” One user exclaimed over on r/PlayStationPlus.

Another fan was hopeful it could live up to Giant Squid’s previous masterpieces.

“Looks good but Journey casts a long and significant shadow that I hope this can edge out from under,” they shared.

So, if you are a fan of Giant Squid’s previous atmospheric masterpieces or you just want to check out a visually stunning indie title, Sword of the Sea is guaranteed to stay with you long after the credits have rolled.
