PlayStation Plus is home to plenty of hidden gems, many of which you’ve probably never heard of.

It’s also home to games you have heard of, but decided against buying/playing for yourself. Perhaps the reviews weren’t favourable, or maybe word of mouth simply said it’s not worth your time.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though, which is where subscription services like PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass can really shine. They provide you with a risk-free way to try a game you wouldn’t necessarily pay top dollar for.

In a since-deleted Reddit thread by FrontConcert1595, gamers were asked what game they’ve played that “changed your life”, and some interesting answers came to light.

One of the most-surprising was an answer by PuG3_14, who hailed 2017’s Prey as “really good” with a “decent twist that i didnt see coming.”

This was quickly followed by others who’d played and enjoyed the game, like tealeaf_oracle who said: “Arkane's level design in Prey was absolute perfection. The atmosphere on Talos l is top tier”

The most glowing review came from CHERNO-B1LL though, who said: “Prey is incredible. Original concept expertly realised. It took what Dishonoured did so well in terms of story, world building, level design and gameplay and just had a s*** ton of fun with it.

“So atmospheric and creepy. Absolutely loved the vibe and how much there was to discover. Never ever felt OP or like I could let my guard down.”

What is Prey and why you should play it with PlayStation Plus

Prey is set during the year 2032, and you awake to find yourself on a space station orbiting the moon.

However, as you wander the corridors of Talos I you’ll find no other humans aboard. Instead you’ll find hostile lifeforms known as Typhon.

No environment is safe. When Typhon are in the area. Some can morph to look like everyday objects whereas others can reanimate bodies to hound you with.

The only way to survive is to scavenge the station for supplies and craft helpful items to prolong your search for a way home. You’ll also uncover secrets that unlock unique abilities to help you on your quest.

When Prey launched it got favourable reviews, and over time many gamers have come to appreciate it as one of Arkhane Studios’ best. It’s a shame things have gone downhill since with Redfall being a complete disaster and the upcoming Blade game fearing cancellation.

The reason Prey didn’t garner much attention though was because it inadvertently mimicked the powers of the Tython; it blended into the background.

2017 was a great year for video games, and poor Prey was competing with the likes of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Horizon: Zero Dawn and Persona 5 just to name a few.

Nearly 10 years later though it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves, no doubt helped along by its inclusion in the PlayStation Plus Extra catalog.

We’re sure many PlayStation 5 owners have been cancelling their PlayStation Plus subscriptions in light of the company’s recent activity, but if you’ve still got time before your membership expires, play Prey. It may just change your life.
