Farming is a key part of the cosy genre. So often, cosy games task us with setting up a new life in the countryside, with key jobs including decorating, farming, gardening, and more.
As enjoyable as farming and life sims are, it can be quite an energy sink to start too many at once, especially given just how much commitment and grind they usually require.
Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Fields of Mistria, Palia, and Disney Dreamlight Valley are among some of the heavy hitters out there.
Once you’ve settled into a farming sim, you probably don’t fancy straying to another, but that shouldn’t mean you have to give up on other cosy endeavours.

Developer Doukutsu Penguin Club is preparing to launch A Tiny Wander, a “mystery-woven exploration adventure where the world itself is a puzzle”.
You’ll step into the shoes, or paws, of a tiny mouse who must deliver a package into the depths of a sealed forest.
Players need to overcome several obstacles by gathering intel and observing their surroundings alongside taking care of themselves; that could look like repairing and managing your camping resources or even grinding a delicious cup of coffee.
A Tiny Wander is set at night, but there are no spooky elements. It’s a peaceful, lantern-lit adventure.

The Witch’s Bakery is essentially Studio Ghibli’s Kiki’s Delivery Service transformed into a game.
This 2D adventure RPG comes from Sunny Lab and sees players manage and stock a bakery as protagonist Lunne can see into the hearts of her customers and heal them with her baking.
By day, you’ll run the bakery, cooking up goods and catering to customers’ needs. In the evening, Lunne can explore Paris, whereas at night, it’s time for you to practice your magic and decorate ready for the next day.
While exploring Paris, Lunne will meet new people, complete activities to learn new skills, and buy books that unlock new recipes. There are multiple districts to explore.
Players will also step inside Lunne’s ‘Heart Palace’, an internal world that screams Ghibli.

Woodo’s concept is a simple one, but sometimes, the simplest ideas can be the most powerful when perfectly executed.
It’s a relaxing, meditative puzzler where players piece together wooden dioramas. For each scene, you’ll have a wide array of wooden blocks and items you need to drag into the right place.
Doing so will restore the scene, allowing you to experience the coming-of-age story of Foxy and Ben.
The artistic direction here is sublime; this could be one of the best-looking indie games of the year.
Developer Tiny Monks Tales describes the game as being like a 3D colouring book that can help you connect with your inner child.

Danchi Days looks set to be a must-play for anyone who grew up in the 2000s.
This “comedic yet bittersweet” story is set in Japan and follows Hoshino, who returns to her hometown after 12 years away to look after her grandma who’s been diagnosed with dementia.
Hoshino’s grandma encourages her to persuade the town to bring back its cancelled summer festival.
That’s no easy feat. Hoshino will need to uncover the town’s secrets to try and understand why the summer festival went away in the first place if she’s to stand a chance at bringing it back.
There are plenty of minigames in this pixel-art experience, which harks back to the Game Boy era.

Big Walk is one of the most talked-about upcoming indies, perhaps as it will land on PlayStation Plus’ extra tier as a rare day-one freebie.
Developed by House House, the creator of Untitled Goose Game, this “co-operative online walker talker” sees you set out on a big adventure with friends.
Your goal is simply to explore the vast world that Big Walk has to offer, but there may be points where communication becomes tricky.
Big Walk makes use of proximity chat, so if you give in to the urge to yeet your mate off a cliff, they’re probably going to have to whip a whiteboard out to respond with a hurt “How could you?”

If you love capybaras, then Capy Castaway from Kitten Cup Studio is a game for you.
This charmingly animated cosy adventure sees a capybara and a crow team up to solve puzzles as they attempt to help animals out following a flood which has devastated their island.
You can enjoy this one solo or with a friend in Capy Castaway’s co-op mode, with the experience said to revolve around “curiosity, friendship, and finding your way home”.
If you play as Capy, you’ll make use of the abilities to sniff, dig, and swim, whereas playing as Corvi the crow allows you to fly, fetch items, and carry Capy.
Devs describe the game as being “low stress” and for players of all ages.

Developed by Tiny Roar, Lou’s Lagoon is an exploration and crafting adventure that sees you travel around a series of islands in a seaplane after receiving a distress call from your Uncle Lou.
Your goal is to locate Lou, but doing that won’t be without its challenges. Even though players are required to gather resources, that’s made grind-free as your handy multi-use Swirler can harvest just about anything.
The resources should also be used to help repair buildings around the islands you're visiting as well as to create your own dream beach hut.
The various key locations to visit include Tangle Bloom, Gleam Reef, and Boulderia, while ring trials await in the skies to test out your piloting skills.

While we did say that this list would be free of farming, Witchbrook is a life sim, but one that looks simply too delicious to omit.
Developed by Chucklefish, the highly anticipated Witchbrook can be enjoyed solo or with up to three friends, having players set up life in the town of Mossport as the newest resident witch.
There, they’ll attend Witchbrook College, learning spells, befriending and romancing their fellow pupils, partaking in community events, and much more.
Witchbrook boasts stunning pixel-art graphics and is essentially the love child of Stardew Valley and Hogwarts Legacy.
It’s been in development for a very long time, so we’re expecting big things.

G-Style Co’s upcoming Hello Kitty Party Land is designed for one to four players and essentially consists of a bunch of adorable minigames featuring everybody’s favourite Sanrio characters.
You’ll navigate to the game’s various offerings via a charming hub world where you can customise your avatar with adorable outfits and hairstyles.
There are over 45 minigames and board games to try, with some of the teased minigame examples including an apple peeling race, a star-catching contest, and something that involves sending giant chopsticks Gudetama’s way.
As for the board game, well, that functions a lot like Mario Party titles as players work their way around a board collecting flowers. There’s plenty to sink your teeth into here.

Ikuma: The Frozen Compass is another offering that can be enjoyed solo or with a friend via co-op.
Developed by Mooneye Studios, it’s a narrative-driven adventure that follows Sam, a teenage boy who finds himself stranded in the Arctic alongside his dog.
Players explore unfamiliar terrain, uncover this land’s secrets, and forage for food in this gripping but cosy release.
If you opt to play solo, you’ll play as both Sam and Ellie the dog, switching between them at the touch of a button.
Ikuma offers some stunning vistas with pink-hued skies that’ll leave you marvelling at what the game visually has to offer.

Developer Cometa Games is beavering away on Clawsome, a wholesome physics-based puzzler.
It’s essentially a claw machine game, with players collecting cute figurines in the hopes of piecing together dioramas.
It’s based in Japan, with four key locations for players to visit: Kamakura, Tokyo, Kyoto, and Shirakawa.
In addition to collecting figurines with your claw, you’ll also unlock hidden stories in your journey to restore an adorable miniature world.
When it comes to building dioramas, you have creative control so you can experiment with arrangements.
There are also puzzles to solve as gathering items with your claw isn’t as simple as ‘drop and grab’. You’ll have to find the solutions to physics-based challenges to get what you want.

ReStory rounds out this list with this simulation and management game, tasking players with fixing up electronics at a store in mid-2000s Tokyo.
Customers will bring you the era’s popular devices, including flip and brick phones, retro game consoles, and more.
You’ll take the items apart, clean the decent components, and place orders to fix the broken parts.
There are clever plays on familiar devices. The PVP, for example, is the game’s answer to a PS Vita.
There are also some legitimate crossovers in here, though with developer Mandragora partnering with Atari to bring some of its classic consoles to the game.
