10 promising indie games that could rival AAAs in the remainder of 2026
These days, it isn’t simply AAAs that dominate gaming. Indie titles and AAs demand just as much of the spotlight and deservedly so.
While AAAs will always have their place and invite us back to the franchises we know and love, indie games are often more unique and daring.
The experiences they deliver aren’t dictated by shareholders and corporate demands; they’re made out of pure passion.
This year has already delivered us some wonderful indie titles with Mina the Hollower, Cairn, and Mouse: PI For Hire, all having impressed.

Here are 10 more indie titles that we think could rival AAAs in the remainder of 2026, capturing gamers’ attention and perhaps even awards contention if they stick the landing.
Big Walk
Release Date: August 4
Launching On: PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Developed by House House, the creator of Untitled Goose Game, Big Walk is a “co-operative online walker talker” that fits into the unfortunately titled friendslop genre.
This charming title is far from slop, though. It sees you explore a vast world, which makes use of proximity chat, alongside your friends.
If you stray too far, you’ll lose contact or echo faintly. Voices will muffle through walls or crackle through walkie-talkies.
It’s completely up to you what you do, whether it’s watching the sunset or wreaking havoc by trying to launch a friend off a cliff.
Doloc Town
Release Date: August 6
Launching On: PC
It’s already a given that Doloc Town is a banger as it’s out in early access, but RedSaw Games Studio’s cosy pixel-art farming sim will soon finally launch its 1.0 edition.
This isn’t your ordinary cottagecore take on the genre. Instead, Doloc Town is set within a post-apocalyptic world.
The sidescrolling title will see you revitalise this derelict land into something prosperous and thriving.
You’ll farm the land, build a new home, fend off monsters, and explore ruins all while having to overcome the challenges posed by extreme weather.
At the heart of the game is the titular Doloc Town, a sanctuary built from collapsed bridges and train remnants where the last hope of humanity can gather to share a drink.
Orbitals
Release Date: September 3
Launching On: Nintendo Switch 2
Orbitals is one of the higher-profile titles on this list, namely because it’s been pushed so heavily by Nintendo as a Switch 2 exclusive.
It is a third-party indie offering, developed by Shapefarm. In this co-op puzzle adventure, players will step into the shoes of Maki and Omura.
This formidable duo must embark on an intergalactic mission beyond a cosmic storm in order to save their home, with platforming challenges and puzzles forming the key basis of the gameplay.
Animated cutscenes have been provided by Studio Massket, and if you’re thinking, “This reminds me of a Hazelight game,” that may be because former It Takes Two level designer Jakob Lundgren serves as director.
Grave Seasons
Release Date: Fall 2026
Launching On: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, PC
Perfect Garbarge will soon bring us the delayed Grave Seasons, an isometric pixel-art farming sim.
Just like the aforementioned Doloc Town, it boasts a unique take on the oversaturated genre as Grave Seasons introduces a grisly twist.
You’ll play as an escaped convict who sets up a quiet new life in the mountainside town of Ashenridge.
The newfound peace doesn’t last long, however, as a supernatural killer is on the loose.
Players will farm, decorate their abode, and romance NPCs all while trying to find out who the killer is; it could even be your significant other.
Screenbound
Release Date: September 10
Launching On: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Screenbound is a platformer with a dual-reality twist. Developed by Crescent Moon Games and Radical Forge, it places you in control of a Qboy.
This retro games console will help you navigate the game’s obstacles as you switch between 3D and 2D challenges.
Focusing on the Qboy is where the 2D platforming elements come into play, whereas the protagonist’s ‘real life’ experience is 3D in what devs call “the world’s first 5D platformer”.
It’s been in development for quite some time - and GAMINGbible recently had the chance to go hands-on.
“There’s certainly a knack to it. Keeping your eye on both parts of the display can be tricky at first, but you’re free to move the Qboy around the screen or put it away completely if it’s obscuring your view too much, or not enough,” we said.
“The demo I played at Summer Game Fest was good fun, and as someone who adores old-school platformers, I think the idea behind Screenbound is inspired.”
Silver Pines
Release Date: October 8
Launching On: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Silver Pines is one for the Silent Hill and Resident Evil fans among you, with this survival horror metroidvania from Wych Elm taking you to small-town America.
Beautifully animated and played like a 2D sidescroller, Silver Pines follows the unfortunate adventures of private investigator Red Walker, who’s attempting to track down a man by the name of Eddie Velvet in the titular town of Silver Pines.
Velvet is a musician who’s been reported as missing, but Walker’s investigation soon becomes a nightmarish one as dread plagues the town.
You’ll need to fend off undead foes, solve puzzles, discover clues, and manage your resources in what looks to be an exceptionally styled survival horror experience.
Kena: Scars of Kosmora
Release Date: TBA in 2026
Launching On: PlayStation 5, PC
Kena: Scars of Kosmora’s status as an indie is perhaps to be debated.
Developer Ember Labs is wholly independent, hence our inclusion, but with PlayStation Publishing handling publishing duties, we couldn’t blame you for discounting this one.
Anyone who’s played the series’ first outing, Kena: Bridge of Spirits, will tell you that the sequel has upped the ante when it comes to scale and quality - judging by its trailer - so it stands to reason that PlayStation may have pumped some funding in.
Even still, we’re hyped for this long-awaited and unexpected follow-up to that 2021 action-adventure gem.
This time around, Kena heads to the island of Kosmora in search of answers for why corruption is flooding her body.
She’ll encounter a dangerous new spirit who fractures her staff, forcing Kena to make use of new alchemy-based powers.
New elemental spirit companions are set to be introduced, which are “charming buddies” that travel with you, grow over time, and can help you unlock new powers. They sound a lot like the first game’s Rot, so let’s hope they’re as cute.
Witchbrook
Release Date: TBA in 2026
Launching On: Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Witchbrook is an upcoming life sim that we’ve been waiting for for an eternity.
Developed by Chucklefish and Robotality, it’s what you might end up with if you blended the aesthetics and gameplay of Stardew Valley with the world-building of Hogwarts Legacy.
Playable solo or with up to three friends, it sees gamers set up a new life as a resident witch in the seaside city of Mossport.
You’ll attend the Witchbrook College for aspiring witches, partake in community events, befriend and romance NPCs, master the magical arts, decorate your humble abode, and more.
It’s been poised to be the next big cosy indie hit for years; Witchbrook could easily make several year-end best game lists if it is finally released and doesn’t slide into 2027.
Emberville
Release Date: October 27
Launching On: PC
After a lengthy build-up, Emberville has finally announced that it’s launching in early access in just a few months.
Cygnus Cross brings us what is yet another pixel-art entry on this list. This time, allow us to introduce you to an RPG with a star-studded cast.
Emberville will see players awaken in the Vitromotus, an underground magical dungeon where “death no longer lasts”.
You’ll explore this vast realm, face off against deadly creatures, rescue fellow survivors and help rebuild the town of Emberville while trying to find out the truth behind its existence.
It blends the best of the life sim and RPG genres and, again, features a weirdly stacked cast.
Video game mainstays like Amelia Tyler, Doug Cockle, Alex Jordan, Ben Starr, Abubakar Salim, Matthew Mercer, Jennifer English, Nick Apostolides, Jane Perry, Elias Toufexis, Anjali Bhimani, and more will all appear.
Our question is, how big is this game’s budget?
Woodo
Release Date: Summer 2026
Launching On: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PC
Woodo perhaps has the simplest concept on this list, but sometimes a simple idea perfectly executed can be something very special indeed.
Developed by Tiny Monks Tales, this is a cosy puzzler where players will piece together handcrafted wooden dioramas.
You’ll rebuild scenes, dragging items into their correct homes, unearthing the coming-of-age tale of Foxy and Ben in the process.
It may sound like a hard sell on paper, perhaps sounding a little dull to some, but we had the opportunity to preview Woodo two long years ago, and we’ve not stopped thinking about it since.
“Woodo is the work of just two developers, two developers with an incredible vision and wonderful sense of attention to detail,” we said.
“Many of us flock to the cosy genre because it provides us with a sense of calmness, it helps us to feel restored. I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered a game where that’s achieved to a greater degree than it is with Woodo. A sunny morning walk, a warm cup of tea, a hug from a loved one … whatever it is that brings you peace, you’ll find that same sensation here.”
