Starfield may let you keep cats and dogs as concept art reemerges

Space dogs? Game of the year.

Starfield genuinely sounds like a dream come true. Over 1000 planets to explore? Sign me up. NPCs that will say your actual name? Incredible stuff. Cool alien lifeforms to discover? Hell yeah.

However, one thing that many fans overlooked is the fact that, seemingly, Starfield may also let you adopt or look after pets in space, which was truly the only thing holding it back from becoming 2023's game of the year, if you ask me.

Take a look at the story trailer for Starfield below.

Admittedly, pets are yet to be directly confirmed by Bethesda, but over on Reddit, fans have rediscovered a piece of concept art which was shown off in the first episode of Into the Starfield on YouTube, back in November 2021. The art shows an astronaut and a young girl walking around in some sort of spaceship, accompanied by a totally normal, non-alien cat. This implies that we may be able to live with our own feline friends while out in space, which is amazing if true.

If pets are a thing in Starfield, then you’d certainly hope that dogs are included, too. Especially if they get to wear little space suits. That bit is important. And hey, even if Earth-dwelling pets didn’t make the final cut, maybe we could adopt some of the friendlier aliens instead? Please, Todd Howard, say it’s true.

Even though completionists will probably be busy exploring Starfield’s planets for weeks, the main story is actually a lot shorter than you might have expected. Howard previously stated that the campaign will take between 30 and 40 hours to complete, which is certainly no Persona 5 Royal. Again though, we can expect that a huge amount of playtime will go towards side quests and exploration, so don’t worry if you think that 30 hours isn’t going to be meaty enough for you.

Starfield is set to launch on 6 September.
