The Legend of Zelda can get surprisingly dark at times but this latest Steam freebie introduces Bloodborne levels of darkness.
Nintendo fans out there may have heard that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is getting a remake for the Nintendo Switch 2, which is hilarious considering Bloodborne fans are still waiting for a mere remaster for PlayStation 5.

While we’d love to see Bloodborne get the new-gen treatment, it just doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen at this point, but if you’re looking for a similar vibe the below Steam horror title might be of interest to you.
Tombwater is an interesting soulslike for a number of reasons, but the main one is that it isn’t played in 3D.

Honestly, more soulslikes should be made in this style, as it works really well, as seen in the gameplay trailer.
It’ll have appeal for The Legend of Zelda fans too, as while we all love the grandiose open-world of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo would do well to appeal to the top-down crowd too.
The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom was a great example of how the preexisting formula can be shaken up a bit for a more compelling adventure.
We could talk about Zelda for hours, but let’s get back to Tombwater. The game is available on Steam right now and calls itself a “souls-like Western full of Eldritch horrors.”

Its description continues: “Explore the accursed Wild West town of Tombwater and lay bare the darkness that lies beneath. Survive blood-spilling combat in this gruesome 2D action-RPG that may just drive you to madness.”
The game is beautifully animated, so it gets a lot of points for style alone, but the gameplay looks fantastic too. Fluid enough for a soulslike game but with that rigidness that you’d expect from a Zelda-like game. It’s a nice combination.
If you’re interested, you can pick up the full game for around £18 right now, but if you’re not sure if it’s for you or not, you can download it for free via the demo.
This should give you a good taste of what to expect from the full game, but we think you’ll want to continue your adventure.
Whether you long for another top-down Zelda game, lie in wait for a Bloodborne remaster or just want something new to play this weekend, Tombwater is worth your consideration.
