New Steam freebie is perhaps one of the most unsettling games I've ever laid eyes on

This brand new free demo that’s just hit Steam may just be one of the most unhinged horror games I’ve seen in ages.

When the press release for Breakout Baby landed on my desk earlier this week, I never would have anticipated the actual game would be so ‘interesting’ to look at.

Breakout Baby is a Pac-Man-like game coming to Steam where you navigate through a maze attempting to find the exit, all while collecting snacks for the little crying infant that you’re trying to protect.

Oh, and did I mention that there are a load of creepy monsters chasing you as well? Sporting some of the creepiest designs I’ve seen in ages.

I mean, just look at this for example.

Yeah, pretty disturbing, and it looks like Breakout Baby will be one game that might see some popularity on Twitch being played by streamers.

The blurb on Breakout Baby reads: “BREAKOUT BABY is a Pac-Man–infused horror roguelike that rewards mastery of its mechanics and precise execution as you progress from floor to floor. Every step — every turn of the corner — matters. One slip-up and it’s all over, for you and your baby. Be careful out there, and don’t forget your Go-Go Juice.”

Breakout Baby's demo has a majority positive ratings at the moment

Released just earlier this week, the demo currently has 91% positive ratings based on 12 reviews, at the time of writing.

“Surprisingly fun. I don't play and like many of the games I see on Tiktok, but this game is different from all the games I've seen. I love the gameplay, it's so dumb, funny and scary at the same time. The upgrades are also a cool feature, and I love roguelikes and horror games so this is right up my ally. Can't wait for the full release,” reads one positive review for the demo.

“i really enjoyed the game, i hope the full game has some sort of endless mode or challenge mode cause i really enjoy the gameplay loop,” reads another one.

“good game and the baby is funny looking,” reads a third one.

However, one demo player left a negative review, calling it out for “unfair game mechanics”.

“I was hoping that this was going to be a very fun spooky game, but it's more of a repetitive unfair game,” they write. “The first level was easy peasy, but the second level is just absolutely impossible.

“Enemies are too quiet and always conveniently show up around corners where I can't do anything to react and die, traps have very weird hit boxes which keeps getting me hit and items don't do what their meant to do most of the time (gun doesn't kill, bottle doesn't make me invincible and teleport doesn't teleport me passed the enemy).

“The worst part is that when you have to escape, the enemies will camp the door and then camp the levers which makes it impossible to escape since I have to stand still and pull the levers. I tried many times to give this game a chance but it just messing with me. If anyone else beaten it, then lucky you. For me, I lost my patience after the 14th try.”

Since this is just a demo, I guess we’ll consider the content in this game subject to change based on feedback.
