It's the day many of us have dreamt about. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is reportedly getting the full remake treatment, supposedly launching later this year.
As it stands, Nintendo's launch line-up for the second half of 2026 is pretty empty. Splatoon Raiders and The Duskbloods are both expected to land within that Q3 or Q4 period but to date, Nintendo's focus has been on the former half of the year.
Yoshi and The Mysterious Book, which lands in May, somewhat marks the end of Nintendo's confirmed release schedule, which is why it's expected that a major Nintendo Direct could be held in the coming months.
Well, according to one leaker, such a Nintendo Direct will include confirmation that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is receiving a Nintendo Switch 2 remake.

This rumour comes from leaker NateTheHate who shared the intel via his YouTube channel earlier today.
"This is something I was a bit hesitant about in January," NateTheHate detailed. "I didn't know if they'd do a full remake. I thought maybe they would do a HD remaster, but I'm hearing an Ocarina of Time remake."
He continued, "I don't have that level of detail as to what type of scope we're getting here. Are we going to get a 1:1 remake akin to what we saw with Demon's Souls? Or are we going to see a remake that's a little more free to explore design choices?"
By all accounts, a The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake is intended to be Nintendo's major release in the second half of the year as it doesn't sound as if a new 3D Mario entry is ready to come to light, despite it being the famed plumber's 40th anniversary this year.
Of course, you should definitely take all of this with a hefty pinch of salt. NateTheHate has been bang on the money several times, but until official confirmation lands from Nintendo, it's safer to air on the side of caution.
Remaking The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is a hefty undertaking given that it's not only arguably the best Zelda entry, but also one of the greatest games of all-time.
On Metacritic, the original Ocarina of Time sits at an incredible score of 99.
How do you recreate something that's so close to perfection, especially given that a modern audience is going to expect some of the game's more antiquated elements to be updated? There's a risk you dilute what made the game so special by applying a contemporary polish.
That being said, it's hardly going to stop this one flying off the shelves. Fans have been calling out for an Ocarina of Time remake for years and if this rumour proves to be true, they could finally be getting one before the year is out.
