Legend of Zelda 40th anniversary Switch 2 leaks alongside Pro Controller

The Legend of Zelda is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary, and a limited-edition Nintendo Switch 2 variant has leaked online as part of the festivities.

This is a follow-up to the same leak from a few months ago, but only descriptions of the limited-edition hardware were shared. Now there are actual pictures of the set.

CentroLeaks shared the images online, which were quickly picked up by Nintendo Everything, and they’re absolutely gorgeous, if they’re real.

Starting with the console itself. The Switch 2 shell is black and gold with an image of the Triforce on the side. It’s similar to previous limited-edition Zelda consoles like the Nintendo 3DS released alongside The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.

The included Joy-Cons have similar patterning but have a green glow to them, which is probably an homage to Link’s signature outfit.

Next, the Pro Controller. If people aren’t interested in the console itself, they’ll definitely be interested in this.

Like the Joy-Cons, it’s a mix of green, black and gold. It’s got the Triforce/loftwing insignia on the centre, and it looks really, really nice. Other images show an 8-bit Link on the back of the controller as well.

Unfortunately, we do have to take these images with a pinch of salt, as Nintendo is yet to confirm if they’re real or not. There’s also the possibility that these images were made using AI. They look genuine, but you can never be too careful these days.

The images were also shared by Stealth, and one of the replies read: “I work in the print industry and I have no doubts that this is real. Print quality is too high, and the box structure itself is also engineered the same way as the current Switch 2 boxes. This would cost thousands of dollars to fake.”

For now, we’ll just have to sit tight and wait for Nintendo to officially announce the new console and controller variants.

Those who held off buying a Nintendo Switch 2 at launch should be pleased. This is definitely going to be a popular set if it’s indeed real. We're even tempted to pick one up despite owning Switch 2s already.

What else is in the works for The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary

Aside from the above hardware leaks, there’s plenty of other stuff to get excited about if you’re a Zelda fan.

Hasbro is releasing some new toys next year inspired by The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom, and the live-action film from Sony comes out in 2027 too.

The big one this year, though, is obviously the release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake, which launches on the Nintendo Switch 2 in the coming months and probably alongside the new console.
