A Game of the Year winner for 2021 is finally heading to Nintendo Switch 2, that’s at least according to an unexpected source.
For any game to win a prestigious Game of the Year award in 2021 is a massive feat, considering that year blessed us with the likes of Resident Evil Village, Metroid Dread, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, to name a few. To be fair, each of those games alone would be worthy GOTY contenders, without a doubt.
However, the game that is the topic of this article is the co-op adventure, It Takes Two, developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It had already launched on the OG Nintendo Switch, but the Switch 2 version can expect to see improved visuals and performance.
As brought to our attention by Reddit user Loose_Society9485, the Nintendo Switch 2 release was discovered in a document for Prowell Asia Holdings, a Chinese games distributor.

According to the document, It Takes Two will be released physically as a game-key card, and has an estimated download size of 12.1GB. It also states that it will be released on October 15, 2026. It may also be safe to assume that it might get a native digital release on the Nintendo eShop.
It Takes Two takes all the plaudits
At The Game Awards in 2021, not only did It Takes Two pick up the GOTY gong, but it also won ‘Best Multiplayer Game’ and ‘Best Family Game’, as well as GOTY at D.I.C.E. Awards in February 2022.
Not only has It Takes Two won multiple awards, but it’s also earned very respectable, and aligned Metacritic scores of 88 from critics and 8.8 from users.
Furthermore, it’s got a score of 88 on Open Critic, and comes 93% recommended. Then on Steam, it earned a rating of “Overwhelmingly Positive” from over 47,600 user reviews. So, if for whatever reason you’ve never played It Takes Two, you might want to change that ASAP.

What is It Takes Two about?
“Embark on the craziest journey of your life in It Takes Two, a genre-bending platform adventure created purely for co-op. Invite a friend to join for free with Friends’ Pass and work together across a huge variety of gleefully disruptive gameplay challenges,” reads the synopsis of the game.
“Play as the clashing couple, Cody and May, two humans turned into dolls by a magic spell. Together, trapped in a fantastical world where the unpredictable hides around every corner, they are reluctantly challenged with saving their fractured relationship.”
We reviewed Split Fiction
The last game released by Hazelight Studios is the other fantastic co-op adventure, Split Fiction. In our duel review with GAMINGbible’s Kate and Sam, they scored it a “Perfect” 10/10.
“Split Fiction’s finale challenges our perception of what this generation of consoles is capable of,” said Kate. “As someone who's played a lot of games, I can confidently say the finale is something I've never seen before,” added Sam.
While we’re praising Hazelight Studios, do not overlook its co-op adventure that started it all in 2018, the more mature A Way Out, which is about escaping from prison and being on the run from the law. Basically, it’s Prison Break, for those who loved that TV series.
