If you’re looking to refresh The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, these free Skyrim mods deliver gameplay improvements to Bethesda’s iconic fantasy RPG.
Originally released in 2011, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has remained one of Bethesda’s most popular RPGs, leading the publisher to bring the fantasy epic to multiple platforms and console generations.
Along the way, Skyrim has received numerous visual and gameplay improvements, with mod support eventually making its way to consoles. Most recently, the Skyrim Anniversary Edition launched on Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the biggest reasons Skyrim has remained so popular more than a decade after its original release is its incredible PC modding community. From visual overhauls and performance improvements to new dialogue, gameplay mechanics, and quests, there are thousands of Skyrim mods available to transform Bethesda’s iconic RPG in an instant.

While these may seem like subtle changes individually, together they can significantly improve the overall Skyrim experience, making the game feel smoother, more immersive and, most importantly, fresh again.

Accurate Projectile Collision
If you’ve ever been frustrated with the accuracy of magic and arrow attacks, then this mod is for you. It extends an NPC's hit box so that it will increase your chances of getting an accurate hit without annoyingly passing through them. The ‘Accurate Projectile Collision’ is created by Ersh and Seb263.
Immersive Dialogue Expansion - Dawnguard and Vigilants
This mod expands the narrative of two ancient orders in Tamriel, the Dawnguard and the Vigilants of Stendarr. Essentially, this mod not only adds more dialogue to the NPCs in both orders, but it also makes their stories more cohesive while adding to the lore. ‘Immersive Dialogue Expansion - Dawnguard and Vigilants’ is created by anbeegod.
Map Menu Extension
This mod is very much a quality-of-life improvement. Inspired by the map used in The Elder Scrolls Online, this will make fast travelling in the world of Tamriel a little easier. It also comes with a dynamic tactical overlay that allows you to see the current state of political alliances and more. ‘Map Menu Extension’ is created by JPSteel2.

Are any of these Skyrim mods available on PlayStation, Xbox or Nintendo?
No, none of the three mods mentioned in this article is available on consoles. That being said, mod support on consoles does vary.
Xbox has the greatest depth in mods. PlayStation has much less so due to Sony’s policies, and none of the Nintendo Switch consoles have mod support. So all three of these mods are PC exclusive.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is available on just about every platform imaginable. It’s also currently included with an Xbox Game Pass subscription, as well as PS Plus Extra and Premium.
