Finally, after what felt like months on end, Bethesda Softworks has given us a development update on The Elder Scrolls VI, and it’s quite a substantial one at that.
To say that The Elder Scrolls VI has been a long time coming is an understatement. Bethesda announced the highly anticipated fantasy RPG first during E3 2018, a time so long ago that the gaming convention no longer exists.
Since that time, we have had small updates here and there, but we’re yet to learn of its release date, let alone seeing a gameplay trailer. All we’ve seen so far is the cinematic flyover trailer from the aforementioned E3 eight years ago.
While we’ve not got those updates today, Bethesda has at least reconfirmed it's still in development, but we now know what engine it will be running on. Oh, and the remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout 4 have been officially confirmed. What a day to be a Bethesda fan!

“Our teams are now developing The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we've been building since Starfield's launch. It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games,” announced Bethesda in a tweet.
“The Elder Scrolls VI is our primary development focus today, with the majority of our team currently working on the next chapter of the franchise. With over 65 million copies sold, players are still exploring Skyrim 15 years later, but we know it’s been a very long wait for the sequel. The next chapter is on the way. We’re where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day,” the tweet concluded.
When Bethesda first announced The Elder Scrolls VI, it was assumed that it would be an Xbox and PC deal only. Then Microsoft began releasing some of its games on PlayStation 5, including Gears of War: Reloaded and Forza Horizon 6, as well as Fable on February 23 next year.
However, following Xbox’s decision to release the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day on PC and Xbox Series X/S, and not the assumed PlayStation 5, it raises some doubts. It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility that The Elder Scrolls VI could be an Xbox console exclusive. Only time will tell.
One thing we do know for sure is that when The Elder Scrolls VI does finally release, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass on day one. Hopefully, following this announcement, we might get treated to the long-awaited gameplay trailer sooner or later. We’ll let you know as soon as that happens.
