Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet launch appears locked in as Naughty Dog drops telling clue

After months of silence, Naughty Dog has just confirmed that its upcoming sci-fi title has surpassed a huge milestone on its way to a 2027 release.

Announced back in 2024, coming from the great mind that brought us the Uncharted and The Last of Us series, Neil Druckmann, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet looked to have vanished into the universe as nothing but space dust in the back of his mind.

But recent casting developments reminded us that Intergalactic is coming to our universe, and Naughty Dog is not being put off by its initial reception.

Filled with talented actors from TLOU and Uncharted, the Intergalactic project could be the Knights of the Old Republic alternative that we've long been looking for, and now it's racing at light speed towards its finish line.

Despite rumoured delays, Naughty Dog has confirmed Intergalactic has now finished filming, and it's just in time for a big PlayStation announcement.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet wraps up filming ahead of 2027 release

In its first public update in months, Naughty Dog revealed that the Intergalactic cast has officially wrapped up the cinematic shoots, and pictured lead actress Tati Gabrielle holding a placeholder weapon.

"See you, space cowboy..." the studio wrote on X.

"That is a wrap on the very ambitious Intergalactic cinematic shoot! This cast killed it! Cannot wait to show you their incredible work when the time is right!"

The cinematic shooting wrap-up comes at an interesting time for Intergalactic, as fans hoped that it would headline PlayStation's newly announced State of Play showcase later this week.

Whether they will be able to whip up a new trailer or gameplay footage in time for the studio's spotlight at State of Play is yet to be seen. But it's likely that Naughty Dog will at least mention Intergalactic and offer a deeper insight into what we can expect.

The announcement also makes for interesting reading in terms of an expected release date.

Initially, the studio claimed that its sci-fi title would touch down in 2027, and that timeline looks to be still in reach.

Fans on X were quick to reiterate that The Last of Us Part 2 wrapped up its filming on April 17, 2019, and was released on June 19, 2020, despite having the hurdles of a strike and the global pandemic.

If TLOU 2 took 14 months from the wrap-up to its release, and Naughty Dog kept that same pace up, that would give Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet a rough release window of October 2027.

The studio could give us confirmation of that by the end of the week, while other fans are hoping that Naughty Dog also opens up about Neil Druckmann's The Last of Us Part 3 ramblings...
