September's PlayStation State of Play could finally shed light on Intergalactic; mark your calendars

In what feels like a year rammed full of game releases, trailers, and new projects, teeing up one of the most impressive calendars that we've ever had, PlayStation is determined to have the last laugh of 2026.

Earlier this year, PlayStation and Xbox joined Summer Games Fest with platform-exclusive showcases, and it's fair to say that Sony stole the show.

The first State of Play of the year was full of huge AAA titles, announcing the new Faye-oriented God of War Laufey, a fresh look at Marvel's Wolverine ahead of its October release, and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis.

Now, following the Gamescom reveals and Xbox's own side-quest at the same festival, PlayStation is confirmed to be getting another State of Play - and it's just around the corner.

State of Play is 'incredibly likely and soon' - here's what to expect

After leaks claimed that the second State of Play showcase of 2026 is imminent, PlayStation has now made it official.

A double-header of showcases is arriving on September 3 (just four days' time!), with State of Play being followed by its Japanese counterpart immediately after. Broadcasts will start at broadcasts at 6am PT / 9am ET / 2pm BST on September 3.

A blog post from PlayStation revealed that PlayStation Studios will be joined by third-party partners, with Square Enix confirmed to be detailing Final Fantasy VII Revelation.

Sony has notoriously held a State of Play in September every year in recent memory, and a quick prowl through the history logs shows that the earliest that the showcase has ever aired is September 9.

Typically, State of Play arrives in mid-to-late September, but this year, we're getting an early surprise.

As to what we can expect to see, well, Intergalactic: The Heretic Project is at the top of everyone's wishlist.

The latest title from famed studio Naughty Dog (The Last of Us and Uncharted) was first announced back in 2024, starring Tati Gabrielle (Nora in TLOU), but has hardly been mentioned since.

Earlier this year, leakers claimed that Intergalactic will be showcased this year, with most predicting that it could feature at The Game Awards (December) or the September State of Play.

In fact, we got the first notion of Intergalactic's progress just last week, as actor Robert Atkin Downes (multiple Uncharted characters and Robert in TLOU) revealed that he had joined up with the 'dawgs' again.

"I've been keeping this one quiet for a while .... The journey continues! Awesome to be working again with the Dawgs!”

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet would be the headliner of Summer Games Fest, but not the only bow in Sony's quiver.

Elsewhere, we could see more of God of War Laufey, Until Dawn 2, Fairgames, and even a sneak peek of Venom.

Others ambitiously claimed Bloodborne 2 (or a remake), The Last of Us 3, an Uncharted reboot title, or Saber's John Wick could all be massive showcase enders.
