Naughty Dog's Intergalactic Release Date Given Disappointing Update

If you’ve been eagerly awaiting Intergalatic, the upcoming sci-fi action adventure from The Last of Us developer Naughty Dog, you may have to wait a little while longer.

Originally announced last year at The Game Awards, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is set to be Naughty Dog’s next major release after The Last of Us: Part 2.

Well, it’s been five years since that game was released, and I’d imagine fans are getting impatient waiting for whatever comes next. Unfortunately though, it seems you may need to be waiting a bit longer.

Earlier this week, on an episode of Dan Allen Gaming Podcast, guest Colin Moriarty (previously IGN and Kinda Funny) speculated on when Naughty Dog may release a second trailer for Intergalatic, as well as when it could potentially release the game.

“I believe we'll see it at The Game Awards, I think next year it'll be good to go,” Moriarty said on the podcast, linked below.

“Maybe they will delay it, but based on the way they're hiring and also things I'm hearing about people interacting with the game, and they're also hiring for localization now, they're getting into the end, and it's a sign that everything is kinda locked down and content complete. I won't be surprised if it was out this time next year.”

Although this is just speculation on his part, rumours within fan communities have been circulating for a while alleging that 2026 could potentially be the year for Intergalactic.

However, this speculation was shut down by both Jason Schreier and Jeff Grubb, who both claim that the game will not be released in 2026, nor will it be shown at The Game Awards.

“Can assure you that Intergalactic is not coming out in 2026,” commented Schreier on Reddit.

“It will not be shown at The Game Awards,” Grubb stated on X (formerly Twitter). “I sympathize with being misquoted. He was speculating and people on the internet pretended he wasn't. Either way, this caused people to confirm to me it won't be out in 2026 and it won't be at TGAs.”

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is probably coming in 2027

It makes sense really. It doesn’t look like it could be coming early in the year, and Sony has Marvel’s Wolverine slotted in to the Q3/Q4 2026 slot, which also includes Grand Theft Auto 6 releasing in November.

So really, early-to-mid 2027 is looking more likely. As is Naughty Dog tradition at this point, it would make far more sense for Intergalactic to release mere months before Sony launches its next-gen console, which is rumoured for late 2027.

So, unfortunately you'll just have a wait a bit longer for Naughty Dog's next game.
