The Last of Us director reveals new game Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Just as we thought The Game Awards 2024 had come to an end, Naughty Dog appeared at the last second to reveal its brand-new IP.

With the majority of the awards handed out, Borderlands 4, The Witcher 4 and Elden Ring: Nightreign announced (alongside others, of course) and The Game Awards 2024 ceremony wrapping up, viewers thought Geoff Keighley had no more surprises up his sleeve.

Check out the announcement trailer for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet below!

However, we were wrong as Naughty Dog has appeared with its brand-new IP.

Titled Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, this new adventure game will see us take to space and follow the story of bounty hunter, Jordan A. Mun (Tati Gabrielle).

In development since 2020, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet will take place thousands of years into the future and we meet Jordan as she finds herself stranded on the distant planet, Sempiria.

With communication with the outside world being lost to the past, Jordan will have to do whatever it takes to leave its orbit despite the fact that nobody has managed it in over 600 years.

Set to release on the PlayStation 5, this game is set to be The Last of Us’ developers “wildest, most creative story yet” but other than that, the studio wants to keep the game under wraps until closer to its release.

“Beyond that, we’re keeping everything about the story under wraps – at least for now,” the official blog post reads.

“What we can tell you is that this game lives up to the Naughty Dog tradition of creating an emotional, character-driven epic journey. Our narrative goals are rivalled only by our gameplay ambitions."

"This will be the deepest gameplay in Naughty Dog’s history, taking our learnings from our previous franchises and pushing them beyond anything we’ve ever done before.”

We may not have received news of a potential The Last of Us Part III during tonight’s The Game Awards but a brand-new IP from Naughty Dog is just as good.

We can’t wait to hear more in the future.
