We got our first glimpse at what the legendary director behind Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us has been up to since he left the studio eight years ago, and, unsurprisingly, it looks like his next project has been worth the wait.
Even if you haven't heard of Bruce Straley before, I'd wager you've probably heard of his work.
Although Straley has been credited on dozens of games since he made his first foray into the industry in the 90s, he's best known for his directorial work on Naughty Dog titles like Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and The Last of Us.
That’s why it came as a bit of a surprise to a lot of fans when Straley announced his departure from Naughty Dog in 2017, following a year-long break after the release of Uncharted 4: A Thief's End.

Plenty of incredibly talented people have left Naughty Dog over the years, but, considering that his work on Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is arguably what propelled the studio into its golden era, I’ve been extra curious what Straley has been working on for all this time.
Well, if you were expecting some dark, gritty adventure or a swashbuckling action game, then you may be leaving this article disappointed. Personally though… I’m 100% down for whatever Coven of the Chicken Foot is.

Announced last night during The Game Awards, Coven of the Chicken Foot looks to be a sort of The Last Guardian-esque 3D platformer starring a wizened old witch and some kind of human/deer abomination.
Our protagonist, Gertie, will have to work with the unnamed monster in a bid to… uh, well, I’m not actually sure what the aim of the game is here.
The trailer that was shown off at The Game Awards was noticeably sparse regarding any plot-related info, although the fresh Steam page for the game states that Gertie is on some kind of quest to “prove herself to the coven.”
For the time being, that’s really all we know about Coven of the Chicken Foot, but I’m already sold. Between the charming visuals, Straley’s impressive resume, and the novelty of getting to play as an old woman, I’m convinced.
So, with all that in mind, when will we actually be able to get our hands on the game? No idea.
For now, Coven of the Chicken Foot doesn’t have any kind of release date, and we can’t even say for sure which platforms (other than Steam) it will release on. I’m cool with a wait, though. I say we let Straley cook, because he’s not let us down yet.
