Bethesda has confirmed the existence of the Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas remasters, in a huge company update providing a vision for the future of the studio.
After months of leaks and speculation Fallout fans are officially confirmed to be heading back to Washington and the Mojave respectively, as Bethesda reorganises after Xbox’s latest major reshuffle.
Bethesda took to X to share an enormous update with its fanbase, not only confirming the remasters are in development, but updates on Fallout 5 and The Elder Scrolls VI as well.
The update read: “We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences. While we're not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.”

What’s interesting is the post didn’t specify which of the titles we’d get first, suggesting that they might both release around the same time. If we were to speculate however, we’ll likely get Fallout 3: Remastered before Fallout New Vegas: Remastered.
It’s honestly about damn time. The Fallout TV series did wonders for the reputation of the series and led to several massive spikes in players for games all across the series.
Fallout Season 2 was especially successful as it got thousands both replaying and playing Fallout: New Vegas for the very first time.
It was claimed that it was around this time that Xbox was starting to get impatient with Bethesda’s handling of the series, as it wanted more Elder Scrolls and Fallout games released for Xbox consoles as soon as possible.
Whether these remasters were greenlit as the result of that discussion or were always going to happen is unknown.
Furthermore it’ll be interesting to see which studio handles what. Fallout 3 is a Bethesda title through-and-through, but Fallout: New Vegas has always been Obsidian Entertainment’s baby, so hopefully it will be Obsidian that leads the remaster.
The Fallout remasters weren’t the only games teased by Bethesda, as a word was shared on some of the other titles too.
Fallout 76 and Fallout: Shelter both got a shoutout, but it’ll be Fallout 5 that gamers are truly interested in.
Bethesda said: “Fallout 5 remains our long-range destination, and we have multiple Fallout projects in active development right now … Fallout 5 is currently in preproduction.”
It later said: “Our teams are now developing The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 on Creation Engine 3, a shared technology platform we've been building since Starfield's launch. It allows our teams to support multiple projects simultaneously with new tools, rendering, and systems that define our games.”
In a nutshell, Fallout 5 is indeed on the way, but don’t expect it anytime soon. Bethesda made it clear that the bulk of its production power is being put into The Elder Scrolls VI at the moment, which is another good sign that Obsidian Entertainment has been drafted in to help with the series going forward.
As far as updates go, what Bethesda shared today was music to our ears. It’s good to see how beloved Fallout series will be getting the love it deserves in the years to come.
