Hogwarts Legacy sequel primed for reveal as Harry Potter: Back To Hogwarts event gets underway

It’s an important day within the Wizarding World calendar; September 1 is the day in which students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry return for the new year.

That day has taken on a life of its own within our muggle world, with Harry Potter fans around the globe celebrating the occasion year after year.

In fact, in previous years, organisers have had to cancel an event that would see a train board display the fictional 11am service departing from Platform 9 and ¾ at King’s Cross because crowds got so out of hand.

These days, most of the celebrating is done virtually with Wizarding World fans tuning into the Back to Hogwarts Showcase event.

This year’s edition will be streamed live from London today, on September 1, at 5pm BST / 9am PT / 12pm ET.

It’ll be available to watch on YouTube where the stream’s description offers an intriguing tease.

“Pack your trunks, grab your wands and join us as we celebrate Back To Hogwarts with our very special showcase,” it reads. “Filmed live from London, expect exciting announcements ahead.”

On Instagram, the team furthered that tease, adding, “Something new is coming from the Sorting Hat.”

Hogwarts Legacy 2 is set for a 2027 or 2028 launch, so its reveal needs to come soon

Naturally, fans have taken to discussing precisely what that new offering might be, and the hopefuls out there have settled on a long-awaited follow-up to Hogwarts Legacy.

We know that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is on the way, despite the lack of a flashy announcement or a trailer.

Warner Bros. executives have spoken on several occasions about how lucrative a franchise Hogwarts Legacy could be, with the team hard at work on its future.

Additionally, Warner Bros. Games CEO JB Perrette previously said that the company will “return to some of our biggest franchises” in 2027 and 2028 - and Hogwarts Legacy is definitely the biggest, as it stands.

It’s with all of this in mind that we’ve been expecting a Hogwarts Legacy 2 reveal for a while.

The dominant theory is that the sequel will drop in early 2027 to coincide with the conclusion of the first season of HBO’s Harry Potter.

That is merely a theory, but if it is true, Warner Bros. needs to get a move on when it comes to revealing Hogwarts Legacy 2, so today’s Back To Hogwarts event would be perfect.

There’s also a State of Play on the way on Thursday, September 3, and don’t forget that the original Hogwarts Legacy had timed PlayStation exclusive content.

Perhaps the Back To Hogwarts event could feature a tease ahead of a larger State of Play reveal.

This does all need to be taken with a pinch of salt. Perhaps the only given from today’s event is that we’ll get a new trailer for HBO’s Harry Potter, which is set to premiere on December 25.

Fans clearly want one thing and one thing only, though.

“I’d so love to see something about Hogwarts Legacy 2, but I suspect they’re going to want to focus mostly on the new HBO series instead,” said Reddit user moonsandra.

“I wish, but it will likely focus on the new HBO series,” agreed Harley4L.

We’ll take anything at this point, even if it’s just an Easter egg hinting that we should turn into State of Play.

Thankfully, there isn’t long to go until Back To Hogwarts reveals all of its secrets.
