A CD Projekt Red developer is defending Starfield, comparing criticism about the game to the hate Cyberpunk 2077 received at launch.

Bethesda’s new IP Starfield has had a tremendously successful launch. As one of the biggest Xbox exclusives in the past few years, the game has single-handedly encouraged people to buy Xbox Series X/S consoles, even contributing to a 1000% sales increase on Amazon.

It’s also generated loads of positive reviews, one of which being our own which you can check out here.

However, the majority of critics are satisfied with the new space-faring adventure, fans are a bit harder to please. So far, the game has been showered with criticism complaining about the game’s space travel, how planets can’t be fully explored without your ship, and even a meltdown about being able to choose pronouns in the character creator.

While a lot of players are still having fun with the game, like this one player who’s created a ridiculously overpowered starship, many are disappointed, and feel Bethesda promised a lot more than what was delivered.

In a surprising turn of events though, a developer from CD Projekt Red, Patrick K. Mills, has come to the game’s aid, and is defending by calling fan complaints “fake criticism.”

Mills replied to a video on Twitter comparing Starfield to Cyberpunk 2077, another game that received an avalanche of criticism at launch, with some developers saying it was unwarranted and exaggerated.

The comparison video, likely inadvertently, presents Starfield as an inferior game to Cyberunk 2077, with Mills replying: “How times have changed (Tbc this fake criticism is actively harmful to the way the audience interacts with the medium and I hate it, but it's very funny to see after how many hundreds of these were made to ridicule [Cyberpunk 2077]).”

Mills isn’t the only one who thinks the hate Starfield is getting is unnecessary either, as many fans are saying the game gets significantly better if you stick with it long-term, and actually put some time into exploration.

Regardless, Starfield is still one of the best titles Bethesda has released so far, and can be enjoyed by everyone on Xbox Series X/S and PC, and can also be downloaded via Xbox Game Pass.
