Fallout: A Tale Of Two Wastelands is the biggest, best Fallout you can play today

Fallout 3 and New Vegas are stronger together

If you’ve ever wanted to play two of the best Fallout games in one go, then you’re in the right place my fellow vault dweller.

In my opinion, two of the best games in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series are Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, released in 2008 and 2010, respectively. But what if both games could be merged into one seamless experience and it somehow made both games even better, how awesome would that be?

Check out the Fallout 3 trailer below!

Well, thanks to a mod created by a talented team of indie developers, you can do just that. This match made in heaven certainly makes sense when you consider that Fallout: New Vegas was intended to be an expansion to Fallout 3 before Bethesda head honcho Todd Howard decided that it would be its own standalone game, which was a wise decision indeed.

The mod in question is ‘Tale of Two Wastelands’ and quite frankly, this could be the peak of Fallout mods along with the likes of the recently delayed ‘Fallout: London’. Best of all, you can download and play ‘Fallout: Tale of Two Wastelands’ for free.

“Tale of Two Wastelands is a total conversion project that seamlessly merges Fallout 3 and its DLC into Fallout: New Vegas, allowing both games to be played in a single playthrough,” reads the description of the mod. “It upgrades Fallout 3's mechanics to those of Fallout: New Vegas while balancing both games to feel like you're playing one full game (instead of two different games using the same character).”

The description continues: “Fallout: New Vegas mechanics like the companion wheel, companion perks, weapon mods, crafting, recipes, harvestable plants, and poisons have been added to the DC wasteland items, NPCs, and world. ‘Tale of Two Wastelands’ also restores some cut content, fixes hundreds of thousands of bugs, adds some items, changes the level cap from level 50 to 60, and alters the Fallout 3 bobbleheads to give mini perks, and more.”

Unfortunately, this mod is only compatible with the PC. As for the rest of us, we can at least play Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas as intended and at no extra cost if subscribed to Xbox Game Pass.

The next game expected to arrive in the series will be Fallout 5 which at the time of writing, does not have a release date.
