There’s been a major shake-up over at DC in the past couple of months. Within DC Studios, James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken over as studio heads. Their first port of call? Dismantling and rebuilding the entirety of the DCU.
The newly titled ‘Chapter One’ will wipe the slate clean, well, almost. The upcoming film The Flash is said to lead into the new phase so there are opportunities for existing DCU actors to return. Henry Cavill will not be returning though. Superman: Legacy will kick off ‘Chapter One’ and will feature a younger Clark Kent. Films that do not fit in the main DCU like the sequels to Joker and The Batman will exist in the ‘Elseworlds’ timeline. There could be another film that’s survived the chop: a new Batman Beyond.
ICYMI, take a look at the trailer for The Flash below.
As reported by Dexerto, former Warner Bros. president Walter Hamada reportedly greenlit a new Batman Beyond film and it could still be in development despite Gunn’s mass cuts to DC’s upcoming slate. In a recent episode of The Hot Mic podcast, industry insider Jeff Sneider ‘confirmed’ the fact claiming that the film is due to be DC’s equivalent of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.

Sneider said, “As of this minute, the project is in development at DC,” but noted that Gunn and Safran could still technically shelve it. “No one involved in that project has been told it’s dead yet.” That’s promising considering Gunn and Safran appear to have carried out the vast majority of their cuts already.
The first chapter of the rebooted DCU will feature 10 projects. Those are: Superman: Legacy, The Authority, The Brave and The Bold, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Swamp Thing, Creature Commandos, Waller, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Booster Gold. Which are you most looking forward to?
