The next face putting on the cowl has potentially been revealed ahead of an official announcement.

James Gunn’s DC cinematic universe hasn’t officially begun yet, though the wheels are turning as we get closer and closer to the release of Superman: Legacy next year.

With David Corenswet leading the new DCU as the man of steel many have wondered who else will be becoming a superhero in James Gunn’s new multiverse, especially the Dark Knight, Batman.

Ahead of Batman’s 85th anniversary, its been teased that actor Colman Domingo will make an announcement to coincide with the world’s greatest detective’s 85th birthday, and while the details are few and far between it could be some sort of casting announcement.

Now don’t jump to any conclusions yet, as for all we know he could just announce that he’ll be lending his voice to the role in a new animated feature, or playing another character in Batman’s world.

James Gunn has also not commented on who his Batman will be, and it’s unlikely he’d allow the secret to be spilled so far in advance of the caped crusader’s next on-screen appearance.

That being said, it is going to be the 85th anniversary, making it prime time to announce something related to future films.

One thing we know for sure is it unfortunately won’t be Robert Pattinson, who’s currently the Batman in his own film universe outside of Gunn’s influence, a good thing too because the first film was great, and it’d be a crying shame to see sequels scrapped in favour of another new actor.

The 85th anniversary will be officially commemorated on Batman Day, which is on 21 September so stay tuned for plenty of big announcements then, same Bat time, same Bat channel.
