The DCU’s upcoming Batman film, The Brave and The Bold, has found its writer, and I don’t think you’re going to enjoy what I’m about to say.
The highly anticipated film is set to be penned by Christina Hodson, perhaps better known as the writer of 2023’s The Flash.
Yes, that The Flash. The abysmal flop that marked the death of the earlier DCEU, although to give it some credit, the writing was on the wall prior to its release.
Now, I want to be fair to Hodson. The Flash’s writing does not sit atop my list of reasons for why that film fared so poorly.

The controversy surrounding star Ezra Miller has to be taken into account, as does the god awful CGI which made the film look like a low-budget TV show.
Even still, I can’t imagine Hodson’s appointment is going to instil DCU fans with a ton of hope.
James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU is yet to confirm the news, with the hiring reported on by The Hollywood Reporter.
The Flash’s Director Is Also Returning
It’s here that I’ll remind you that The Flash’s director, Andy Muschietti, is already onboard to direct The Brave and the Bold.
So yes, the DCU is reuniting a pretty controversial team.
I’m going to be hopeful and assume that Muschietti and Hodson presented an incredible pitch, having learnt from The Flash’s failures.

I do have faith in Gunn. It’s very early days for the DCU but Superman delivered, so I can’t see him greenlighting something he doesn’t think will turn out to be a resounding success.
There’s very little we know about The Brave and the Bold beyond that it’ll follow Batman and Robin, the latter being Damian Wayne.
The Hollywood Reporter added that they don’t know how far along the film’s script is, with their source claiming Hodson has been working on it since last autumn or fall, but another claiming a first draft is some way off.
The Brave and The Bold is a part of the DCU’s ‘Chapter One’, subtitled ‘Gods and Monsters’.
Superman kicked things off last year, with Supergirl set to arrive on 26 June 2026. That’ll be followed by Clayface on 11 September 2026 and Man of Tomorrow on 6 July 2027.
Beyond that, we’ve got The Authority, Swamp Thing (which James Mangold is taking on writing and directing duties for), and a Wonder Woman film to arrive alongside The Brave and The Bold.
Those films all remain without release dates.
