Batman: Arkham Knight receives an unexpected update available to download now, but there is one catch.
The Batman: Arkham series from Rocksteady Studios is arguably one of the greatest superhero franchises of all time and most certainly helped put the London-based developer on the proverbial map.
When Batman: Arkham Asylum arrived in 2009 on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, it set a new benchmark for what gamers expect from a superhero video game inspired by comic books. Up until that point, most superhero video game adaptations sucked, big time.
Batman: Arkham Asylum went on to receive two critically acclaimed sequels from Rocksteady Studios with 2011’s Batman: Arkham City and 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, completing its mainline trilogy.

There were, of course, the spin-offs such as 2016’s decent Batman: Arkham VR, as well as 2013’s criminally underrated Batman: Arkham Origins, but the latter was not developed by Rocksteady Studios, but instead Warner Bros. Games Montréal.
Oh yeah, we also had Gotham Knights in 2022, also developed by Warner Bros. Games Montréal. I almost forgot about that co-op multiplayer game, for some reason.

Rocksteady Studios Hasn't Always Hit a Home Run!
Then we had Rocksteady Studios’ 2024 live-service abomination that is Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, a game considered so bad that it struggled to be given away at no extra cost. But the less said about that game, the better.
That being said, you can’t go wrong with the Batman: Arkham trilogy, all of which have aged like fine wine. In 2023, this trilogy was released on the Nintendo Switch. Sadly, while the first two games were decent ports, that wasn't quite the case with Batman: Arkham Knight.
Simply put, despite being a decade-old game, at the time of writing, Batman: Arkham Knight is still visually stunning and would put many current-gen games to shame in that respect, and that’s not even taking into account its vibrant open-world.
Batman: Arkham Knight has since received several patches to improve the experience, but at least on Nintendo Switch, it’s still not quite the same level of quality as even the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Thankfully, at least, the Batman: Arkham trilogy is playable on Nintendo Switch 2.
As brought to our attention by Nintendo Life, Batman: Arkham Knight has recently received a new update that reportedly improves the experience by quite a lot.
Below are the patch notes for the Batman: Arkham Knight update that went live on 17 December 2025 for Nintendo Switch consoles:
- Additional stability improvements for Batman: Arkham Knight on Nintendo Switch.
- Additional stability improvements when playing Batman: Arkham Knight on Nintendo Switch 2 through backwards compatibility.
- Additional performance and visual improvements when playing the game undocked on Nintendo Switch 2 through backwards compatibility.
The entire Batman: Arkham trilogy is out now on PC and modern consoles.
