Batman: Arkham Knight Sequel Has Gamers Seriously Concerned

I just want my Batman Beyond game. Is that too much to ask?

The developer behind Batman: Arkham Knight may be cooking up a new game in the franchise based on the much-beloved Batman Beyond, but fans aren’t convinced that the developer still has the chops to produce a title that’s on par with the original trilogy.

There’s a lot working against a potential follow-up to Batman: Arkham Knight, regardless of how many leaks and rumours persist about its development.

Perhaps the most famous rumour doing the rounds at the moment stems all the way from a Tweet by Xbox Era’s Nick Baker back in 2023, who stated that he heard that a new Rocksteady Games-developed Batman Arkham title was in the works, and that Sony was pursuing the exclusive rights to publish it on PlayStation.

Since then, the rumour has evolved and morphed somewhat, but it’s reared its head once again after Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier released an article featuring a quote from Warner Bros CEO David Zaslav, who noted that Rocksteady Studios “is looking to return to Batman for a single-player game” during a financial earnings call.

Several leakers have stated that the rumoured Batman Arkham game that Rocksteady is working on is based on DC’s Batman Beyond animated series, which many have conflated with the previous cancelled “Project Sabbath” game that was being developed by WB Games Montréal.

Over on the r/batman subreddit, fans don’t seem too keen on the reported leaks, mostly because they believe that the talent at Rocksteady Games that produced the original Batman Arkham trilogy has long since left.

“Ngl I'd rather have a Nightwing game…” commented user Cultural-Relief.

“If it helps, Rocksteady hasn't been the same since Arkham Knight. Whose to say you want a Terry McGinnis Batman game from the studio that gave us Lawless”, replied user Recent-Layer-8670.

For the record, yes, a lot of the team that made the Batman Arkham games great are no longer at Rocksteady Games, but I think it’s a bit unfair to lump the blame for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s failure entirely on the new blood at the studio.

It’s pretty clear that the game failed due to pressure from the previous Warner Bros. Games management, due to the tight deadlines they imposed on the staff and their bullheaded approach in attempting to morph the Batman Arkham universe into a live-service looter shooter.

Plus, perhaps this is a bit of a brave opinion in this day and age but, the main story missions in Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League were pretty good, honestly. If Warner Bros. allowed the studio to focus on making something truly single-player oriented, I think that Rocksteady Games would shine.

Also, I really want a Batman Beyond game, so stop whining or you’re gonna ruin this for me, dorks.
